A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of David C. Sparrow.

WHEREAS, David C. Sparrow was a son of the Commonwealth, having been born in Lebanon on May 27, 1944, the cherished son of the late George Dudley and Carrie Isaleen Carpenter Sparrow; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sparrow's career was devoted to county extension and agriculture, working as county extension agent for 4-H and agriculture and an assistant to the College of Agriculture's dean at the University of Kentucky. He also worked for the Mammoth Cave Production Credit Association and the University of Kentucky's Boyle County Extension Office; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sparrow was a devoted Danville and Kentucky resident who served the community for more than four decades in many capacities. He served as chairman of the Danville Urban Aesthetics Committee, the Streetscape Project, and the Danville Parade of Flowers. He served terms as president of numerous organizations, include Heart of Danville, Kentucky Association of County Agricultural Agents, Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce, Danville-Boyle County United Way, Kentucky 4-H Agents Association, and Danville Optimist Club, and held other leadership posts with the Kentucky Beef Cattle Association and Optimist International. He was a member of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation, Heart of Danville Economic Development Committee and Main Street Program, and Danville Kiwanis Club; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sparrow participated with such statewide activities as the Kentucky State Fair, North American International Livestock Exposition, and open and junior dairy shows; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sparrow received numerous awards, including the Kentucky Cattleman's Service Award, NAILE Newell Hicks Vision Award, Kentucky Youth Seminar Leaders Award, Boyle County Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award, the Kentucky Association of County Agricultural Agent and National Association of County Agriculture Agent Distinguished Service Award, the Boyle County Meritorious Service to 4-H award, the Kentucky Beef Cattle Association Outstanding Extension Agent for Agriculture award, Danville Optimist of the Year award, and he was a three-time recipient of the R.J. Reynolds Award for Excellence on Extension; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sparrow served as a deacon and moderator at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sparrow departed this earthly life at the age of 69 on February 2, 2014, leaving his family, friends, and an entire community in solemn mourning. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Linda Gale Cassity Sparrow; two daughters, Tabby Casey and her husband, Mike, and Cassinda Bechanan and her husband, Doug; one brother, Dr. James W. Sparrow and his wife, Beverly; and four grandchildren, Christopher and Lauren Casey and Logan and Fielden Bechanan;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The House of Representatives expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and extends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and community of David C. Sparrow.

âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of David C. Sparrow.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Linda G. Sparrow, 20 Mapletree Place, Danville, Kentucky 40422.
