Valley Irrigation of Southern Africa/ Centre Pivot Irrigation (plc)

Responsible for management of 2100ha. Sugar cane development

For Tongaat Hulett, Lamego project, Mocambique. Installation

And commissioning of complete irrigation infrastructure,from

pump stations, water and electrical reticulation to installation and

commissioning of 33 centre pivots. Control of large staff

contingent, co-ordination of sub-contractors’ activities and

liason with consulting engineers. Strong emphasis was on

innovation and problem solving in hard conditions.

2003 To Present Managing Director

Currently running a multifaceted business, including agricultural project management, survey and farm planning, nursery and landscaping, digital printing and signwriting and property development.

Responsible for all aspects of management of a sugarcane, citrus

and mixed farming operation, including irrigation, budgeting, labour and transport control, including a plant hire business. The home farm operation was re designed and entailed the

total re-development of 200ha. of flood irrigated sugar cane with

updated layouts, canals and water management systems,resulting in top yields in the area for the subsequent 3 seasons . New agricultural

developments included 2 x 80ha. centre pivots for sugar cane, from virgin Mopane forest, the first centre pivots used for cane in the country, including sand abstraction pumps, pipe and canal water delivery to the pivots.The upgrade of 100ha. citrus to microjet

irrigation and the establishment of a mango orchard.Also responsible for feedlot and butchery, purchasing and feeding cattle for slaughter.

Also responsible for development and financial control of operations at Masapas Ranch, part of the Save conservancy, operations being safaris,

cattle ranching and cropping.

1983 To 1992 Senior Section Manager

Initially engaged as Feedlot Manager, responsible for management

of 25 000 head of cattle through the Feedlot per year.

In addition to the above, responsible for the control of a

section of the Ranch, involving animal husbandry, breeding, grazing management and running of the game section, including building hunting camps, co-ordinating local and international hunts, problem animal and population control. Controlling the abattoir and processing of beef and game meat for the butchery as well as trophy preparation.

In November 1986, transferred to the Fields Department as a

Trainee Section Manager, then promoted to Section Manager in

June 1987, responsible for an area of 450ha. of sugarcane and

cotton with a labour force of approximately 200 people. Promoted to Senior Section Manager in June 1990 and became

responsible for an area of 650ha. of sugarcane and acted as fields manager in the absence of my immediate superior.

During this time was involved in major upgrading of field layouts and irrigation systems in order to maximize production.

Left Triangle Limited in June 1992 to take up employment with

Chiredzi Ranching Company.
