St. Bernard High School Announces New Head Football Coach
Coach Jimmie Irby will join the Viking Family as Head Football Coach. Coach Irby has had success everywhere he has coached or played, most recently at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach and Long Beach City College. After reviewing 50 resumes and inviting 7 finalists for formal interviews, St. Bernard selected Coach Irby due to his immense qualifications as well as the exciting energy he will bring to our program. Bio: Jimmie Irby
Coach Jimmie Irby has been named Head Football Coach for the St. Bernard Vikings. Before joining the Vikings coaching staff in 2015, Coach Irby was Asst. Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator at St. Anthony High School, Long Beach for 3 seasons under the direction of Head Coach Mario Morales. In the 2014 season, Coach Irby coordinated a very talented Saints defense, shutting out 2 opponents in league play. Also in 2014, St. Anthony (11-2) reached its first semifinal since 1948 and won its first League Championship.
Irby coached at Long Beach City College from 2009-2011. He coached Defensive Line and Linebackers, contributing to their first Conference Championship win since 2005. Irby also coached at Banning High School in Wilmington, CA, coaching Defensive Line and Special Teams from 2007-2009. This was under the direction of head coach Chris Ferrigamo, one of the winningest coaches in high school football.
Irby began his athletic career at Banning High School in Wilmington, CA, where he was a two-sport athlete in basketball and football. He earned All City/Conference honors as a three-year starter at Defensive End.
Irby continued on to Mount San Antonio Community College in Walnut, CA where as a freshman recorded 18 sacks in the season, breaking both the season record and the sacks per game record. Irby’s 2-year total of 30 sacks broke another school record, earning him JC Grid Wire All-American honors as a freshman/sophomore at Defensive End.
He then transferred to Texas A&M University where he earned pre-season All Big 12 honors as a Defensive End/Linebacker. During that time, he played under renowned Head Coach R.C. Slocom. Irby also played with several arena football teams.
Jimmie Irby earned a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management and a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology. Irby and his wife Stacey have been married for 15 years and are proud parents of two children, Jordan age 13 and Sierra age 12.
