Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of any cancer. One person in the UK dies of the disease every hour. Pancreatic Cancer UK is a national charity determined to make a difference by providing support and information to those affected and by raising awareness and funding research. Pancreatic Cancer UK provides advocacy for patients and families and lobbies government and policy makers to prioritise pancreatic cancer.

The Fundraising Event Intern

We are seeking a Fundraising Events Intern who is looking to gain experience within a busy Fundraising Team. You will show a genuine interest in the aims of the charity and be keen to learn new skills and be involved in all aspects of our work. This would be the perfect opportunity to gain the experience and skills needed to begin a career in fundraising.

You’ll need to be adaptable and hard-working. The environment is fast paced and you will need to learn new skills quickly. The Fundraising Events Intern will be managed by the Fundraising Officer and will primarily be working on the 2015 Virgin Money London Marathon, with ad hoc work on other spring running events. You will need to be available to work the occasional evening or weekend to attend fundraising events.

Duties

·  Supporter care - contacting event participants via phone and email with regular information updates and to support their fundraising.

·  Event planning – supporting the Fundraising Officer to plan the event reception at the end of the race and the charity stand at the Virgin London Marathon Expo.

·  Recording data – accurately updating the charity’s database.

·  General office support – sending out fundraising packs and materials to participants.

·  Marketing events – working with the Fundraising Officer to help market the events to increase participation.

·  Research – research trends in fundraising events.

·  Corporate – approach companies for Gifts in Kind to insert in goody bags for the participants.

Skills and experience

We are looking for someone with the following experience:

·  Competent written skills.

·  First-rate communication skills both on the phone and face to face.

·  Excellent IT skills: Word, Excel.

·  IT literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office

·  Ability to accurately record information and data.

·  Basic internet search skills.

·  Comfortable managing and prioritising your workload, whilst working to deadlines within a dynamic and fast moving environment.

Personal qualities

·  Personable with an excellent telephone manner.

·  Energetic and enthusiastic with the confidence and desire to support and motivate fundraisers.

·  Good written and verbal communication.

·  Creative and quick thinking.

·  Able to be sensitive and show empathy for supporters who have a personal connection to the disease.

·  Willing to work the odd weekend and evening at events.

Location and hours

5 days a week (9am – 5pm) based at our office in Vauxhall, London.

Training

·  An introduction to the work of Pancreatic Cancer UK.

·  An introduction to Fundraising and Event Management.

·  On the job training using our database, Raisers Edge.
