The Fall athletic teams have been enjoying our beautiful late summer weather and working extremely hard to perform their best in the many venues across the city.. The well respected X-C team has been competing each weekend against the top teams in the Metro and regional area. The 6th annual Villa Bears Running Classic was once again a huge success due to the determination and effort of Coach Mike and his staff as well as the numerous parents and alumni who assist at this event year after year. The team is looking forward to its annual trip to the Brown University Invitational in Providence R.I. as it prepares for the Championship meets later in the month.
The Varsity Tennis team continues to” racquet” up their game against a few formidable league opponents. They registered their 1st win against St. Joseph by the Sea and captured their 2nd against Moore Catholic. With a renewed confidence after their wins, they hope to continue to improve their level of play as they take on some of the stronger teams in the league. The team action takes place through the middle of October and culminates at the Individual Tournament the weekend of October 17-19 at CSI.
The JV Soccer team is working hard and continues to demonstrate improvement each time they step onto the field. After registering a tie with St. Joseph by the Sea, they have played several tough games against more experienced opponents. The girls are coming together better as a team which helps them as the season progresses through October.
The Varsity Soccer team picked up their first 2 wins of the season defeating Moore catholic 2-0 and St. Peter’s 3-0 both games were held at Miller Field. They then faced defending champion NDA and fell in a hard fought battle. Their league season has a few weeks left and they look forward to some post-season action.
The JV and Varsity Volleyball teams have been playing some very exciting matches. Both teams have played the limit of games in several matches and both teams have faired well in the early portion of the season. The teams pick up pace now as they prepare for the home stretch and possible playoff contention.
The Varsity Cheerleaders have been practicing many months already as they prepare for Regional Competition in late November. The team will host a Car Wash fundraiser on Sunday October 26th at 12 Noon to help defray the cost of qualifying for Nationals at Disney World in February.
The Varsity Swim team had its largest turnout in several years for this upcoming season. A parent meeting was held on Monday Sept. 22 and the team began practicing on Wed. Sept. 24th at CSI. Their league schedule begins in mid-October with the Freshman Invitational and then continues with the duel meet schedule.
Our School SPIRIT WALK is scheduled for Friday October 10th beginning at 1:30pm. The entire student population is asked to participate in this event by earning a minimum of $10.00 in sponsors. Those students earning more than the minimum can earn additional prizes such as a chance to win Villa Spirit Wear or $100.00 credit toward the Junior Dinner Dance or Senior Prom. A flyer with the Sponsor/Permission slip is included in this monthly packet of information.
