Frederick Community College

Frederick Acoustic Music Enterprise presents a Celebration of Acoustic Music Saturday, April 16 at the Jack B. Kussmal Theater on the campus of Frederick Community College. The show will feature six of Frederick County's best acoustic performers from 7- 10 PM. Tickets are $5.

The show will feature Scott Barrett, Pete Looney, Brian Derek, Moon Music, John DuRant and Mike Schirf with Dan Mack. Some of these performers have been playing around Frederick for decades, others are relatively new to the area. All of them represent the rising quality of music in Frederick County.

This show is the first step in F.A.M.E.'s goal of developing a venue for working acoustic performers that is between the coffeehouses and the Weinberg. It is the group's desire to develop a performance setting where appreciative audiences can listen and participate in the music. A venue where select performers can showcase the best they have to offer. A setting where the music is the main focus.

F.A.M.E. will be developing several more of these concerts through the remainder of the year. It is also our hope to expand the public's definition of "acoustic" to include a wide variety of genres including folk, bluegrass, jazz, classical, choral, and gospel. Through these events we will encourage local musicians to hone their craft to the ultimate of their abilities. It is our belief that Frederick, both city and county, can and should be a musical destination for visitors with some of the finest music in the U.S.

A creative goal was realized with the release of his first full length CD “35, and a Month of Days” in the summer of 2009. Scott currently performs as a solo, duo, and with his 4 piece band “The Darnrights”

The two then joined forces again, along with Deb Dalby, singer and percussionist, to complete the Moon Music trio. John DuRant

Performance Description:

With an emphasis on fun, John DuRant brings back the wonders of the Romantic Age though ballads, story songs and historic melodies.

Bio:

The Troubadour Lives! John DuRant, who performed for seven years as the Host of The Troubadour TV Show, brings back the wonders of the Romantic Age though ballads, story songs and historic melodies. Great fun for both children and adults – Singing-a-long is encouraged. Don't be surprised if John leaves the stage to come down into the audience for a serenade or two.

From half a dozen kids at the single-street New Market Day's Festival to an audience of several thousand at the Children's Festival for the Chesapeake Bay, (Pier Six Music Pavilion, downtown Baltimore), the "Old World Troubadour" John DuRant has performed for children of all ages with his old-favorites-songs and more recent tunes, as well as his many stories - acted out as much as told.

For over five years, John has hosted the Troubadour Show on Frederick CableVision, featuring local children and drawing upon the talents of many other, well known regional entertainers for song, mime, and storytelling.

A perennial performer at many outdoor festivals, such as the Maryland Renaissance Festival and the Great Waterford Fair, John's strolling performances fascinate children, while his stage shows allow kids to participate in their own music and storytelling adventures.

An experienced lutanist and expert singer himself, his CD album The Cat Came Back is an asset to any child's (or adult's) music collection - fifteen delightful, serious and funny songs from his "Troubadour Show" repertory.
