Addendum No. 3
Dear Contractor:
This addendum is being issued to the contract for construction on State highway in SAN DIEGO COUNTY NEAR ALPINE FROM 0.6 km WEST OF PEUTZ VALLEY UNDERCROSSING TO 0.3 KM EAST OF VIEJAS CREEK BRIDGE.
Submit bids for this work with the understanding and full consideration of this addendum. The revisions declared in this addendum are an essential part of the contract.
Bids for this work will be opened on October 5, 2000. The original bid opening date was previously postponed indefinitely under Addendum No. 2 dated August 4, 2000.
This addendum is being issued to set a new bid opening date as shown herein and revise the Project Plans, the Notice to Contractors and Special Provisions, the Proposal and Contract, and the Federal Minimum Wages with Modification Number 7 dated 9-8-00. A copy of these wages is available on the Internet Site at http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/oe/
Project Plan Sheet 9A is added. A half-sized copy of the added sheet is attached for addition to the project plans.
Project Plan Sheets 15 and 16 are revised. A half-sized copy of the revised sheets is attached for substitution for the like-numbered sheets.
In the Special Provisions, Section 10-1.01, "Order of Work," the fourth paragraph is deleted.
In the Special Provisions, Section 10-1.10, "MAINTAINING TRAFFIC," the following paragraphs are added after the third paragraph:
"At locations where falsework pavement lighting are designated, falsework lighting shall be installed in conformance with the provisions in Section 866.11, "Falsework Lighting," of the Standard Specifications.
Openings shall be provided through bridge falsework for the use of public traffic at each location where falsework is constructed over the streets or routes listed in the following table. The type, minimum width, height, and number of openings at each location, and the location and maximum spacing of

falsework lighting, if required for each opening, shall conform to the requirements in the table. The width of vehicular openings shall be the clear width between temporary railings or other protective work. The spacing shown for falsework pavement lighting is the maximum distance center to center in meters between fixtures.

Plywood panels (2.4 m installed height) shall be placed on both sides of the falsework opening at the Viejas Creek Bridge."
In the Special Provisions, Section 10-1.10, "MAINTAINING TRAFFIC," the following paragraph is added after the seventh paragraph:
"The full width of the equestrian trail at Viejas Creek Bridge shall be open for use by public traffic on Saturdays, Sundays and designated legal holidays; after 5:00 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and the day preceding designated legal holidays; and when construction operations are not actively in progress."
In the Special Provisions, Section 10-1.10, "MAINTAINING TRAFFIC," the following paragraphs are added after the eighth paragraph:
"When construction operations are actively in progress at the Viejas Creek Bridge and full closure of the equestrian trail is required, closure signs shall be placed on the trail at the north and south side of the bridge. The Contractor shall notify the Engineer not less than 3 calendar days prior to closing the trail. Full closure of the equestrian trail shall be limited to a total of 20 working days.

Temporary chain link fence (1.8 m height) may be required along the westside of the equestrian trail at the Viejas Creek Bridge as directed by the Engineer. Temporary chain link fence will be paid for as extra work as provided in Section 4l.03D of the Standard Specifications.
Furnishing, posting, maintaining, and removing special equestrian trail signs shall be considered as included in the contract lump sum price paid for traffic control system and no additional compensation will be allowed therefor."
In the Special Provisions, Section 10-1.10, "MAINTAINING TRAFFIC," Chart Nos. 8, 9, and 10 are added as attached.
In the Proposal and Contract, the Engineer’s Estimate Items 7,10, and 12 are revised, as attached.
To Proposal and Contract book holders:
Replace page 3 of the Engineer's Estimate in the Proposal with the attached revised page 3 of the Engineer's Estimate. The revised Engineer's Estimate is to be used in the bid.
Indicate receipt of this addendum by filling in the number of this addendum in the space provided on the signature page of the proposal.
Submit bids in the Proposal and Contract book you now possess. Holders who have already mailed their book will be contacted to arrange for the return of their book.
Inform subcontractors and suppliers as necessary.
This office is sending this addendum by UPS overnight mail to Proposal and Contract book holders to ensure that each receives it.
If you are not a Proposal and Contract book holder, but request a book to bid on this project, you must comply with the requirements of this letter before submitting your bid.
