Purpose: Aquatics Coordinator Job Description:

Work with a team of students and professionals to provide fun, healthy, alternative activities for the Sonoma State University community at the university’s pool. The core responsibility of the Aquatics Coordinator is to develop and market the use of the Campus Rec Swim (CRS) program at Sonoma State University’s Pool. Ultimately the student coordinator oversees the CRS program and lifeguard staff under the supervision of the Campus Recreation Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

●Represent Campus Recreation programs and the Sonoma Student Union Corporation in a professional manner.

●Educate participants and staff, and enforce all of the policies and procedures.

●Maintain current knowledge base of all Campus Recreation programs.

●Collaborate with the Kinesiology and the Athletics department to obtain the maximum use of the pool by CRS.

●Communicate with Conference, Events and Catering (CEC) to properly and promptly request reservations of the SSU pool for CRS.

●Create a schedule of hours and shifts based on pool availability and participants’ needs.

●Advertise and promote hours through fliers, radio announcements, tabling, and any other advertising/marketing avenues in accordance with Campus Recreation, Student Union and University Policies.

●Interview and employ quality lifeguards for CRS.

●Organize and conduct staff meetings and bi-annual staff trainings.

●Train employees in proper paperwork procedures and Campus Recreation Employee Guidelines.

●Collect and review lifeguard staff’s monthly payroll.

●Collaborate with Risk Management Program Assistant to develop and update participant incident forms, waivers and policies.

●Provide ample office and first aid supplies necessary for the lifeguard staff to operate CRS.

●Work with the Membership Coordinators and the Operations staff to make sure information is delivered effectively and efficiently to current and potential CRS participants.

●Provide a means for lifeguards and participants to evaluate the CRS Program.

●Attend all meetings, workshops and retreats for Campus Recreation programmers.

●Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for staff and participants.

●Ensure a safe environment for all participants.

Preferred but not required qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to make decisions based on Campus Recreation guidelines.
  • Commitment to student leadership and development.
  • Awareness of safety concerns and risk management.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Ability to supervise student staff and/ or participants.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
