AP Spanish Language and Culture
Fall 2014 – Spring 2015
Course Overview
All students are encouraged to practice in the target language with the teacher and with peers. The goal is to communicate at least eighty percent of the class time in Spanish. Immersion is highly recommended and opportunities are encouraged. Students should be able to:
· Understand/comprehend formal and informal spoken and written Spanish in conversations, lectures, oral presentations, newspapers, letters, instructions, television shows and movies, internet articles, and various forms of literature
· Express themselves orally with an accent that is accurate enough not to interfere with comprehension in the areas of arguing, inquiring, and describing. Communication in past, present, and future tenses with few errors in addition to other tense forms
· Express themselves well in a variety of styles, using appropriate strategies for the audience through writing and speaking

Systematic progression through the Diaz, et.al, AP Spanish Preparing for the Language Examination in incorporated throughout the semesters with additional reading/writing using the Hispanomundo text.
Assessment: Written and oral unit exams and AP Spanish practice exam portions are regularly scheduled. All students enrolled in the AP Spanish Language class are strongly encouraged to take the AP Spanish Language Exam in May 2014 at 8:00 am. AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam location to be announced.
Course Plan – Students are expected to follow Plan A of the 5 Steps to a 5 AP Spanish Language and Culture. The monthly calendar presented in the text will be followed during class time. In addition to the aforementioned activities, students are expected to present a weekly current event and to participate daily in conversation. Presentational speaking opportunities will be imbedded in the course throughout the year.
