ANALYSIS:
1). Take a 2 ml sample of the operating solution and place it into a 250ml Erlenmeyer FLASK
2). Add 50 ml of D.I. water.
3). Add 10% Caustic Solution to raise the pH to >10.0 (This should only take a few mls.)
4). Add 1 ml of 35% Hydrogen Peroxide and heat the solution for about 20-30 minutes near boiling.
5). Cool solution and add 50 ml of D.I. water
6). Add 15 ml of concentrated Hydrochloric Acid and 10 ml of 10% Potassium Iodide.
7). Titrate the dark brown solution to a straw color with 0.1 N Sodium Thiosulfate solution.
8). Add 1 ml of 1% Starch solution.
9). Continue the titration with the standard 0.1 N Sodium Thiosulfate solution to a clear endpoint.
CALCULATION:
mls of 0.1 N Sodium Thiosulfate solution x 0.8 = % by volume HP TRI-V BLACK Part A
Note: When adjusting the HP TRI-V BLACK Part A concentration, an equal amount of “Part B” should also be added.
CAUTION:
HP TRI-V BLACK SOLUTIONS ARE ACIDIC. CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN HANDLING BOTH CONCENTRATED MATERIALS AND THEIR SOLUTIONS.
WEAR EYE PROTECTION AND RUBBER OR NEOPRENE GLOVES WHEN HANDLING.

STORAGE:
HP TRI-V BLACK Parts A and B can freeze if exposed to below freezing temperatures for prolonged periods of time. Store above freezing.
If freezing should occur, the container should be warmed and mixed thoroughly before using. Samples should be sent to HAVILAND PRODUCTS COMPANY for analysis.
