All the above members devote themselves striving hard to raise the educational standards of the poor students especially the socially backward classes. To make it more authentic, the strength of the socially backward classes has been about 42% of the total strength since the inception of the college. This has indeed been a challenge for the college. The college teachers have part in their efforts day in and day out to raise the educational standards of the students. While taking education the students gradually become aware about the socio-economic problems of the country. This awareness is not only regarding society but it also favours self-improvement bringing out the innate qualities and flowering their personalities.

Maharashtra Udayagiri Mahavidyalaya, NAAC accredited B++ college, is located at Udgir on the convergence of three states viz. Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The college was established in 1962 by the great visionaries of Udgir. A handful of people in Udgir felt the dire need of an educational institution which could cater to the needs of the students and society. And with this passion came the vision for ‘mission’. A substantial, authentic and thoughtful mission statement came on paper with the following words:

“To offer meaningful, purposeful and

useful education to enhance human

potentialities for the development

of self and society.”

Soon management of M.E. Society, considering the socio-economic and cultural background of the society in Udgir, came on a decision to set the goals and objectives of the educational institution.

Goals and Objectives of Maharashtra Education Society:

  • To spread quality education, in general, and to impart instruction in any branch of knowledge, wherever and whenever feasible, to raise the educational standards of the students belonging to rural areas.
  • To implement and instruct different educational plans, undertaken by the government, which are relevant to the regional and the national needs.
  • To introduce job oriented, career oriented and need based courses as and when the situation demands.
  • To create awareness among students about the existing socio-economic problems of the country.

Keeping in mind, goals and objectives our teachers strive hard to comply with it.

The degree as well as the post-degree programmes are in accordance with the need of the society and students. All the activities that are planned are in sync with the mission, goals and objectives of the college. Throughout the year, the student community get an opportunity to develop themselves with a versatile personality. The NSS and NCC give them a chance to mingle with the reality of the socio-economic problems dealt with the society. Throughout the year the student community gets ‘n’ number of chances to shape themselves like the Annual Social Gathering, NSS camps and activities, NCC, Youth Festival, Avishkar, Science Exhibition, Anand Nagari etc.

All these activities make him stand independently in this competitive world. Besides this there are programmes which have initiated keeping the global competencies in mind. They are self financed programmes like BCA, BCS, MCA etc.

Once the student enters the college he can take membership in the various clubs depending on the subject. There are Science clubs, Commerce and English club. Every club has its own set of activities beneficial for the students.

A college academic calendar is also made and included in the prospectus of that particular academic year. A brief look at the calendar will give an idea of the various activities for the students.

In fine, at the entry point the students are meek and feeble whereas at the exit point you find a drastic change in him. In this way, we have been churning out students for years together.

The NAAC peer team’s assessment also made us assess our strengths and weaknesses for which we are striving hard to rectify the weaknesses pointed out by the team.
