Advanced Practitioners’ Annual Conference:
Leading improvements in learning and teaching
Tuesday 24 April 2007 London
(this is a repeat of events on the 27th Feb and March 1st both of which sold out)
This conference is designed for:
Advanced Practitioners, Learning Development Managers, Staff Development Managers, Quality Managers and all teachers and managers with an interest in improving the quality of learning and teaching.
College staff with a remit for improving teaching and learning are very much in the spotlight. They are expected to keep up to date with the latest research, skilled at initiating and supporting change and exemplar teachers in their own practice. Advanced Practitioners and Learning Development Managers need to be skilled in deploying the exact mixture of support and challenge for all staff.
One of the essential elements in this role is to be clear about what expert teaching looks like and how such good practice can be adopted by all teachers. There is increasing evidence of what works in the classroom and the Advanced Practitioner needs to know how to make this research relevant to different individuals and teams in a supportive and reflective manner.
This annual conference for Advanced Practitioners and Learning Development Managers has been designed to enable people with this role to step outside the day to day pressures of their work in order to reflect upon best practice. It will review the things that expert teachers do, some of them surprising, and show how to encourage colleagues to do the same. It will look at the latest research on evidence based teaching and how to design effective in-service training for teachers, looking at the structure of effective training and the role of coaching in supporting long-term improvement. It will examine the demands and opportunities that ILT have placed upon all teachers and particular methods that help to make the best use of this.
Sessions include:
· How can we lead improvements in teaching and learning?
· What do expert and effective teachers do differently?
· How can we design effective ‘in-service’ for teachers?
The course will be led by Geoff Petty, the author of ‘Teaching Today and Evidence-Based Teaching’. He has a reputation for explaining learning and teaching issues in a practical, lively and inspiring way. Geoff’s ideas and materials on differentiation have been adopted nationally by DfES and others. There will also be contributions from Advanced Practitioners, outlining approaches which have worked in different colleges.
In order to make the most of this opportunity, numbers on this seminar are limited to 36 and will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis.
