HOSPICE OF DAVIDSON COUNTY RECOGNIZES
COMMUNITY LEADERS, PARTNERS AT 29TH ANNUAL MEETING
LEXINGTON, NC (April 18, 2013) –Hospice of Davidson County recognized area philanthropists and community partners at the agency’s 29th Annual Meeting, held earlier today at The Conference Center at Davidson County Community College.
The Board of Directors honored local supporters Talmadge and Ian Silversides with the 2012 Founders Award – an award recognizing the significant contributions of an individual or individuals who have contributed to the longevity of the non-profit organization. The Silversides were the first recipient of the annual award, which was presented at this year’s event so that both could be in attendance. Talmadge Silversides has served multiple terms on the Hospice of Davidson County Board of Directors and she and her husband, Ian, continue to support the agency through significant contributions to support the Hinkle Hospice House and the Bruce Hinkle Emergency Fund, established in 1993 to provide for family needs of those facing terminal illness.
The 2013 Founders Award, which was presented by the agency’s president-elect, Debbie Fanary, was presented to Evelyn and Sam Harris. The Harris’ have been longtime supporters of Hospice of Davidson County, including donating a portion of the land for The Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice Houseand the Home Care/Administrative buildings, located off of Bryant Road at Highway 64 East.
Hospice of Davidson County Board President Craig Idol recognized The Homer Shaw Memorial Golf Tournament as the 2013 recipient of the Community Partner Award. This award is presented annually to an organization, business, church or foundation that has made significant contributions to the agency. The Homer Shaw Memorial Golf Tournament was formed more than 28 years ago by David Shaw in memory of his father, Homer Shaw. The event is held in Boone, NC at his father’s favorite golf course every June and proceeds benefit Hospice of Davidson County annually. David Shaw, his mother Helen, Cheryl Shaw and Rick and Laura Leonard accepted the award.
At the annual meeting, Hospice of Davidson County also recognized incoming board members for 2013-14: Misti Boles-Whitman, Julie Huneycutt, Kyle Kepley and Will Tate. The Board of Directors also presented outgoing board members Robert Green, Sara Messer and Robin Huneycutt with service awards.
Hospice of Davidson County also elected its slate of officers for 2013-14, which include Debbie Fanary, President; Rochelle Bobo, Vice President; Craig Idol, Treasurer and Past President; and Ann Ripple, Secretary.
For more than 27 years, Hospice of Davidson County has surrounded patients and families with exceptional medical support and compassionate care through their end of life journey. Each year, the United Way agency cares for more than 750 patients and families facing a life-limiting diagnosis or terminal illness in a variety of settings, including private homes, skilled care facilities and at an inpatient facility, The Henry Etta and Bruce Hinkle Hospice House.
