CRS RICE BOWL

REFLECTION: KENYA

This week, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to enter into solidarity with the people of Kenya. We are encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social teaching principle, Sacredness and Dignity of the Human Person, and reminded that our inherent dignity comes from our creation as children of God and not from any of our own actions. Let us pray this week for our brothers and sisters in Kenya and all around the world, that we may respect and uphold the sacredness of life and dignity of all people.

ST. CATHERINE SCHOOL NEWS

Our hallways are quiet and all are settled in after a restful February vacation. We begin to prepare our hearts for the Easter season. Students shared in a school-wide Mass on Ash Wednesday, March 5. Our grade 4 students have been working with Mrs. Martinez and will present The Passion on April 11 and April 14. Thank you to Mrs. Gordan for hosting the Scholastic Book Fair this past week. This is always a welcomed event. Children benefit from hands-on literary selections with their teacher during the school week. We are just three weeks away from the Terra Nova Testing. Terra Nova is a series of standardized achievement tests that assess student achievement in Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Spelling and other areas. Students will be testing during the week of March 24. In addition to preparation for Terra Nova, students are diligently progressing on their grade-specific Curriculum Fair Projects. Think spring! Our young artists are wishing away winter with all things floral in Art class. Monet-inspired Water Lilies, Mosaic vases overflowing with painted flowers, and abstract skill stick flowers will welcome that warm weather that must be lurking around the corner. Artists will be gearing up for their class Art projects in support of our Annual Auction Event. The Auction committee is excited to announce “SUN. SUN. SUN. Here it comes.” A Beatles-themed auction event is scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. It is always a spectacular evening for our parent community to enjoy, while supporting our awesome children. Plan on a little TWIST and SHOUT as we all COME TOGETHER to HELP our school. It is sure to be a fun-filled evening WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE IN MANCHESTER

You are invited to join other Christians now through April 13 for 40 Days for Life – 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You are also invited to stand and peacefully pray during a 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside Planned Parenthood of Northern New England at 24 Pennacook Street in Manchester. Help spread the word about this important community outreach. If you would like more information and to volunteer in any way, please contact: Bob Melnyk at or visit 40daysforlife.com/manchester

THURSDAYS ON PENNACOOK STREET

A couple in a rust-covered car were among the first to go into Planned Parenthood, and the woman was obviously pregnant. After only 20-30 minutes inside they were turned away, and the man looked angry. The prayer volunteers had many conversations with people as they entered and left PP that day. One woman said she didn't believe in abortion and was there for birth control pills. The volunteers explained how the pill works as an abortifacient. She was upset to hear abortions were being done while they spoke.
The prayer volunteers try to stay until all the women leave PP, so they can offer them brochures for healing after an abortion. Some weeks they wait until after dark, only to be told to “get a job” or be otherwise insulted – but most times the women and men that leave last are grateful to be handed a Rachel's Vineyard brochure or other post-abortive information. Thank you to Seminarian Ryan Brady for braving the cold to lead the volunteers in praying the rosary. Prayer volunteers from this parish and parishes from all over our Diocese pray outside the Planned Parenthood clinic in Manchester and offer assistance to women unsure about their decision to abort. These stories are their eyewitness accounts. There are 20 to 30 surgical abortions performed every Thursday. For information about helping save women and babies from abortion via the newly opened Pennacook Pregnancy Center, contact Cathy Kelley at 483-5177 or .
