Welcome to Mrs. Hands CC7 math class. CC7covers all of the Common Core seventh grade standards. This class will be an opportunity for you to learn new problem solving skills, mathematical concepts, and vocabulary. It will also be a chance for you to sharpen and put to use previous knowledge and skills.
Class Expectations
- Respect Yourself
- Respect Others
- Respect Property
Supplies:
You will need to bring the following supplies to class every day.
- Math spiral where you will take math notes and do book homework
- Pencil pouch with 3 pencils (with erasers), protractor, ruler, scientific calculator (not an app on your cell phone), and 2 red ink pens
At Home Supplies: You need to take your pencil pouch home every day so you have your supplies with you to do their homework. In addition, you should have colored pencils available to use.
On-line resources:
Khan Academy is a website for extra help. There are many YouTube videos which go over almost every math concept taught in CC7 - most are done by math teachers. In addition to videos, there are some practice problems.
Request
Please get parent permission and sign up for an account on Khan Academy. Parents can also have an account which will allow them to look at your work if they want.
Cell Phones
Cell phones should be put in the wall chart every day when students enter the classroom.
Grades:
Grades are broken down in the following way:
- Assessments – 80%
- Homework – 10%
- Other – 10%
Assessments: During first trimester,Assessments include quizzes and unit tests. There will be an opportunity to retake parts of unit tests.
Homework: 10% of your grade will be based on homework which can be book assignments and/or worksheets graded on effort. Students will earn three points for a completed assignment (answers, work shown, graded on-line), two points for completed assignments; however, the answers are not graded, one point for an incomplete assignment, and zero points when your homework is less than 25% complete.
Other: 10% of your grade will be based on classwork including assignments such as Exit Tickets, group questions, and other required classwork.
Absences: It is your responsibility to get any notes, in-class work, and/or homework to be completed. Check the calendar on my website or check the posted weekly outline in the classroom to see your missing work.
If you are absent the day of an assessment, plan to take the assessment the day you return to school. If you are absent the day before the assessment, you will still take the assessment on the day of the assessment as no new concepts will be covered the day before the assessment. If you are absent for more than one day prior to an assessment, see me about scheduling a time for you to take the test.
Class expectations are taken seriously. Each of you should feel comfortable, respected, and valued in this room. Please do not hesitate to come to me if you have any questions or concerns. I’m looking forward to working with each of you throughout the year. Have a great year, and have fun!!
