Communications Volunteer Job Specification
Position: Communications Volunteer
Purpose: To assist the Communications Officer with Y Care International’s online media and publications to help promote the organisation as a leading international development agency transforming the lives of vulnerable young people.
Responsible to: Communications Officer
Main responsibilities and tasks:
· Assisting in writing and/or revising content on YCI’s international projects for YCI’s website and publications, and social media
· Assist with the production, printing and dissemination of Y Care International’s Annual Review, Learning Summaries and Research Publications
· Assist with marketing and recruitment for the YCI International Citizen Service
· Schedule and write postings for social media, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube - posting information, monitoring and helping build YCI’s social media reach and presence.
· Transcribe and edit video interviews into a written case study for online updates and social media
Salary and hours: To ensure that YCI and the prospective post-holder derive the maximum benefit from the voluntary placement, we ask for a minimum commitment of 2 days per week for at least 3 months. Multiple roles may be appointed. Greater London travel (up to Zone 6) and lunch expenses will be reimbursed. Working hours are 7 hours per day, with core hours between 10am and 4pm, and one hour for lunch.
The Volunteer will gain:

Person Specification
Essential Requirements
· Writing skills and excellent fluency in written and spoken English
· Ability to use initiative and work independently
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people from a broad range of backgrounds, cultures and influence
· Good word processing skills and experience of Microsoft Office programmes
· Committed to the aims of Y Care International and the YMCA movement
· Commitment to completing the task within the specified time-frame
Desirable requirements include:
· Journalistic or editorial training and/or experience
· Experience of using content management systems (particularly Wordpress), but training on our specific system will be provided
· A working knowledge of social media both technically and in terms of how to use it effectively in a charity context
· Experience of dealing with digital photographs and video; knowledge of Photoshop and video editing would be useful, but not essential
· Knowledge of and interest in international development issues, especially in relation to young people
