Character Map and Timeline Assignment

Due: March 23rd by the end of class

For this assignment, you will be choosing a character to follow throughout the book. Following a character allows you to have a deeper understanding of how certain events influence the character’s decisions. Character mapping also gives you a deeper understanding of the novel and the other characters in the novel. In order to dig into your character, you will be creating a character map and a timeline about the character you choose to follow.

Choose a character (if you have another character you would like to choose, instead of one on this list, come and talk to me about your choice):

Arthur Leander / Jeevan Chaudhary / Clark Thompson
Miranda Carroll / The Prophet / Kirsten Raymonde
August

Part One: Character Map

Using the template, you will draw a portrait of your chosen character and fill in the boxes with information from the text. Each box must have at least three pieces of information about the character. Each piece of information must have a page reference with it. (FOR EXAMPLE: Viola has a grass allergy pg. 128). These pieces of information can be in a bulleted list. The drawing of your character must be in color.

Part Two: Timeline

The timeline should list ten events that outline your chosen character’s life, in the order that they happened. Each event should have the page reference with it. Each event should have at least one complete sentence about the event. You can use the offered timeline template or create your own on an 8.5x11 piece of paper (whatever color you wish). Remember that the novel jumps between past and present, so make sure you are placing the events in the order that they happened time-wise, not the order they are represented in the book. (FOR EXAMPLE: Arthur Leander dies at the beginning of the book, but later chapters tell about his past life).
