Day at Portscatho Saturday 12th May 2012

Meet at Gerrans Parish Memorial Hall, TR2 5EE (Directions overleaf)

This day has been arranged for us by the St Gerrans and Portscatho Old Cornwall Society.

Portscatho, once a thriving fishing village, still retains that old world charm with a harbour, small cottages and several sea captains’ houses. Gerrans at the top of the hill, with a church and ‘day mark’ spire also has buildings from yesteryear and a Parish Heritage centre. Both villages were separate and independent communities until modern housing estates were built.

10.00 Arrival, tea/ coffee/biscuits

10.30 Welcome and Presentation on Gerrans and Portscatho.

11.05 Group A – Guided Walk of Portscatho (includes the Chapel).

Group B – Guided Walk of Gerrans, (includes visits with talks at Church and Heritage Centre).

12.35 Talk: The Parish of St Anthony-in-Roseland

1300 Lunch: Pre-ordered pasties or there are two Public Houses that offer meals and refreshments (one in each village) – or bring your own.

14.15 Group B – Guided Walk of Portscatho (includes the Chapel)

Group A – Guided Walk of Gerrans, (includes visits with talks at Church and Heritage Centre).

15.45 Questions and discussion on the day

16.00 Tea/coffee/biscuits and departure.

Directions to Gerrans Parish Memorial Hall, Portscatho

The postcode is TR2 5EE

Coming from the Truro direction take the A390 towards St Austell and turn right onto the A3078, signed Tregony, St Mawes, about a mile after Tresillian.

From the St Austell direction, take the A390 towards Truro, turn left at Hewas Water onto the B3287, signed Tregony.

Both routes join at the bottom of Tregony Hill (B3078 signed St Mawes). After reaching Trewithian (some 7 miles from Tregony), turn left, signed Portscatho, Gerrans, St Anthony. Keep straight on this road into Gerrans. Immediately after the church, turn left and down the hill until the first bend. The hall and free parking is on the right.

PLEASE NOTE it is FREE parking for you as you’re visiting the Memorial Hall, although the “Pay and Display” sign does not make this clear!
