AEE (ALG1 TUT LAB A) Syllabus

Course Description

This first semester of one year course is designed as an extra help/support for your Algebra 1 class. This class will provide you with instruction (review) in prealgebraic and introductory algebra concepts and skills that are needed for you to pass Algebra 1 class. It is intended for current 9th graders who are taking Algebra 1 class. The course will focus on meeting the Common Core State Standards in mathematics.

In this course, you will be required to use ALEKS to help you master Algebra content.

ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) is a Web-based assessment and learning system that differentiates for each individual student’s needs. ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn't know in the course, and then provides instruction on the topics you are most ready to learn. ALEKS then instructs the student on the topics s/he is most ready to learn. As a student works through a course, ALEKS periodically reassesses the student to ensure that topics learned are also retained. Students who show a high level of mastery in ALEKS will gain the foundation needed to be successful in the overall Algebra course.

Course Objectives

The course will be held in the lab, using ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces), a Web-based assessment and learning system. It will help you work on Algebra 1 concepts and prepare you to pass both classes. Students who show a high level of mastery in ALEKS will gain the foundation needed to be successful in the overall Algebra course.
