LECTURER (PERMANENT) (LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE)

Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law wishes to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced employee to support and add value to the outputs of the department. Lecturer: Library& Information Science will be responsible for the teaching under and post graduate students.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences (NQF 10)

Experience

A minimum of Three (3) years of work related experience of which s/he should have been demonstrated the ability to publish on accredited journal.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Based theoretical knowledge of the field of Library Science, Information Seeking and Retrieval and Information Ethics
  • Play a role in as an academic in the development of the discipline in the academic spectrum
  • An understanding of fundamental research methodology and competence or demonstrated potential in facilitating research tutorials/ seminars and practical sessions; and/ or undertaking research projects, production of research reports and conducting of tutorials and/ or practical sessions.
  • Supervise students at postgraduate level and co-publish a research output
  • Contribute in engaging the department in community services/ outreach projects
  • Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Potential to undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental level

Competencies:

  • Ability to conduct research
  • Supervise postgraduate students in research
  • Supervision at Masters’ level will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrate potential in communicating knowledge and facilitating teaching and learning in a lecture, seminar, tutorial and/ or practical or laboratory environment; and in assessment practices
  • Potential to undertake research
