WELCOME BACK!!!!!!!!

I hope that everyone had a very restful summer vacation and that you are now ready to come together for another year of what I like to call Fun, Facts and Fevers!!!

I am sure that this will be an exciting year here at LAS. There are plenty of educational programs and activities planned that I am sure will be very interesting, but here are a few tips that I would like to share with you in order to make this school year an enjoyable one for all.

  • This past year was a difficult one in regards to the flu. The flu virus stayed with us way into late spring. I urge all LAS families to consider getting the flu shot this year. Speak with your physician and if you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call my office.
  • Please review the chart at the end of this page. It is so important that you keep your child home from school when he/she is ill. Not only will you prolong them from getting better, you will be placing other school children at risk for getting ill. Please consider bringing in healthy snacks for your child and classmates for any celebration. I have included a list of possible healthy snacks that would be a substitute for the cupcakes and donuts that are brought in. We must start to recognize that these types of snacks are contributing to the unhealthy state of our school children. In addition, we have numerous students with varying types of allergies. As a school, our main concern is not only the academic wellbeing of the students but also the health and safety of all the students.

So, again, welcome back families and please know that my office is always open if you have any questions or concerns.

As a result of everyone coming back to school, there will be more traffic around the school building. In the morning, students are usually driven to school and dropped off at various locations. Most of the time, the drivers leave the area immediately. Add to that the fact that some drivers have to drop off a student at one school and drive across town to drop off another student.

The following tips, rules and regulations are to assist the driver in safely discharging and picking up students at LivingstonAvenueSchool.

  • Drop off your child at the curb on the school side of the street. If it is a one way street, have your child exit the car on the curb side only. Do not allow your child to exit the car on the street side.
  • Do not block a cross walk.
  • Do not block driveways.
  • Do not double park. This creates an unsafe situation for children who are often difficult to see between cars.
  • When crossing the street, children should walk, not run and should observe for turning vehicles while crossing.
  • If you re the driver, set a good example for children. Always keep in mid the oncoming traffic when exiting your vehicle. Cross the street with care. Stop at the curb and check for oncoming traffic before you cross.

If you follow these simple rules, we all can be assured that our children will remain safe when walking to and from school or being transported by car.
