Mr. Jasso’s PRE-AP LA9 Reading requirements
· Pre AP AP classes demand you read literature of merit and exemplary texts, occasionally of adult topics, and intended to provide the rigor and stamina to prepare you for college work.
· For your independent reading this school year, you’ll choose a selection from the following quarterly lists and are expected to finish the book to earn a passing grade.
· Your selection will be entered into our classroom log as you begin reading it & will be subject to my approval.
· For each book you will complete a Major Data Works Sheet (MDWS). See attached for worksheet and due dates.
· Also on the due date, you should be prepared to draft an in-class writing assignment (essay) on your book, completing it during that class period.
· PLEASE NOTE: you are expected to actually read the selection you choose, not just Cliff’s Notes or Spark Notes summaries or information. Your in-class writing and your MDWS will show that you have read the book completely and your grade will reflect this expectation.
· There is no re-do test or late-work writing accepted for this ongoing assignment. As an AP student, please plan ahead and complete the four assignments on time all year.
· Please sign the signature page, have your Parent or Guardian check the correct box & sign that page and you’ll return this page to me tomorrow.
· You’ll also keep an on-going journal of in-class assignments (completed on Fridays) which detail the development of theme throughout the text.
