NAS SHOW RULES

EQUIPMENT FURNISHED BY THE NORWALK AQUARIUM SOCIETY:

1.  One-quart drum bowls for Betta classes, 1-quart or ½ gal bowls for Guppy classes, and 2 ½ gal tanks for other classes will be supplied by NAS on a first come first served basis.

2.  Air, airline tubing, and valves will be supplied by NAS.

3.  Stands for tanks up to 20 inches long will be supplied by NAS. Tanks larger than 20 inches must have a stand provided by the entrant.

4.  Air stones will NOT be available from NAS.

EQUIPMENT THAT ENTRANT MUST FURNISH:

1.  The entrant must supply tanks larger than 2 ½ gallons. Air operated filters are required on tanks of 10 gallons or more, and must be provided by entrant.

2.  Flowerpots and a small quantity of floating plants may be used in all classes.

3.  Entrant must provide water, Airstones, and COVERS. NAS recommends that entrants use RIGID COVERS.

OTHER RULES CONCERNING PHYSICAL SET-UP:

1.  Entrants may set up Friday September 26, 2014, between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and/or Saturday September 27th, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Set-up MUST be completed by Noon Saturday. NO EXCEPTIONS!

2.  No form of advertising will be permitted on show entries.

3.  A member of the Show Committee will make all airline adjustments.

4.  The Show Committee will act to the best of its ability to protect exhibits during this period.

GENERAL RULES – pertaining to Show

1.  The show is open to the public. Affiliation with an aquarium society is not necessary.

2.  Dealers must enter in their personal names.

3.  Entrant should supply scientific and/or common names for each entry. For rare or unusual specimens, the entrant is responsible for submitting all references that will assist the judges in reaching a fair decision.

4.  Technical information pertaining to species, size, etc. shall be based on authoritative publications. Judging will be done by experienced and competent judges. Their selections for awards will be binding and final.

5.  Exhibitor should state on the entry form the class in which the exhibit belongs. The Chairman of Judges will re-classify an exhibit if it has been improperly classified. His decision will be binding and final.

6.  The Norwalk Aquarium Society and Earthplace, Nature Discovery Center will not be liable for any entries or equipment but will to the best of their ability protect all exhibits against theft or tampering.

7.  Sick and/or deformed fish will be disqualified. Entrant may not remove sick fish after noon on Saturday. After Saturday noon, the Show Committee will remove sick fish upon request of the entrant.

8.  Show committee will remove dead fish.

9.  Exhibits may not be removed until Sunday morning. Awards will be presented at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

10. For the Best Junior’s Award, a junior is defined as 16 years old or under. Junior entrants must setup their own entry. Minimal help is allowed.

11. Any fish that is illegal to import into the State of Connecticut or the USA is prohibited.

*Special awards will be presented for Best of Show, Reserve of Show and Best Junior

FURTHER EXPLANATIONS AND RULES ON THE CLASSES

FAMILY TANK: / Breeding pair with a minimum of six fry from the same spawn.
PHOTOGRAPHY: / Open to regular & digital prints. All prints must be not less than 5x7, not greater than 8x10, and mounted on stiff backing. Each entry should bear your name, address and phone number on the back.
Novelty Tank: / Dream up your wildest fantasy and show your creativity to come up with a non-traditional tank/container to house your favorite fish in. The sky is the limit. (Must have at least one live fish in tank/container)
Misc. Pairs:
Planted Tank: / An entry shall be one male and one female from the same species. Where sex is not readily determined, two fish shall constitute an entry.
A Planted Tank should also contain fish and/or invertebrates. It will be judged on these criteria’s:
-Creativity.
-Composition / Arrangement of plants
-Balance between the fish and the layout design
Creator’s choice of fish/Invertebrate for his/her layout is evaluated.
-Natural atmosphere
Does the layout clearly tell you the creator’s idea of nature?
-Aquatic plants’ conditions

AUCTION RULES

1. / Auction vendor forms must be handed in before 1:00 p.m. on Auction Day.
2. / Auction will be conducted using the Red Dot system. One red dot will be given for every 5 items. These red dot lots will be the first to be auctioned.
3. / All dry goods must be clean and in working order. Auction committee reserves the right to reject damaged goods.
4. / Only fish related items will be auctioned.
5. / Styrofoam boxes will be accepted on a donation basis only.
6. / All fish are to be double bagged. There will be a $1.00 re-bagging charge deducted from the VENDOR share for any fish requiring re-bagging.
7. / Vendors will not be paid during the Auction. Vendors on the premises at the end of the Auction will be paid at that time. Other vendors will be paid within two weeks after the Auction VENDORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FILLING OUT THE VENDOR FORM COMPLETELY.
8. / NO MINIMUM BIDS PERMITTED.

Vendors & Bidders are required to fill out the top section of this form. Bidder cards will not be handed out if the top section is not completed.

Vendor Forms must be turned in before 1:00 p.m. on auction day. There will be a $1 handling fee for re-bagging fish. All fish must be double bagged. Styrofoam containers listed as lots are accepted as donations only. Vendors will not be paid during the Auction. Vendors on the premises at the end of the Auction will be paid at that time. Other vendors will be paid within two weeks after the Auction.

Bidders may register any time -- there is no cut off time for Bidder registration. Bidders do need to register for the auction – No bids will be accepted without a Bidder Card. There is no fee for the bidder card. Lots may be bumped up for a $2.00 fee.

From I 95 (Connecticut Turnpike) Exit 17

Left at bottom of ramp onto Rte. 33 North. Go 1.5 miles to intersection with Route 1 (Post Road). Left on to Rte. 1. Go 0.5 miles to second traffic light. Turn right onto King's Highway North. Take first left turn onto Woodside Avenue (becomes Woodside Lane). Go straight 0.9 mile to Earthplace.

From Merritt Parkway (Route 15) Exit 41

From Norwalk/Stamford – Turn left at end of ramp at traffic light by the Red Barn Restaurant.
From Fairfield/Bridgeport – Turn right at the end of ramp at the traffic light. Go under the Parkway to the traffic light by Red Barn Restaurant. Go straight on Route 33 South to the next traffic light. Turn right onto King's Highway North. Go 0.6 miles past 2 stop signs and 3 speed bumps to a right turn onto Woodside Avenue (becomes Woodside Lane). Go straight 0.9 miles to Earthplace.

From Route 1

From Norwalk - Turn left at the second traffic light after the Westport town line onto King's Highway North. Take first left turn onto Woodside Avenue (becomes Woodside Lane). Go straight 0.9 miles to Earthplace.
From Fairfield - Turn right at the second traffic light after the intersection with Route 33 onto King's Highway North. Take first left turn onto Woodside Avenue (becomes Woodside Lane). Go straight 0.9 miles to Earthplace.

From Wilton/Ridgefield/Danbury

Follow Route 7 South to Route 33 South. Follow Route 33 South for 1.5 miles to third traffic light after the Merritt Parkway intersection. Turn right onto King's Highway North. Go 0.6 miles past 2 stop signs and 3 speed bumps to a right turn onto Woodside Avenue (becomes Woodside Lane). Go straight 0.9 miles to Earthplace.
