Role Profile
KAL’s Corporate Aquatic and Sports product is a vital part of the organisation’s business delivery.This section of the business will drive the aquatics and sports products, both in terms of financial contribution and product delivery, to ensure a high quality, profitable product continues to be developed and delivered.
The Aquatic, Sport ActivityManager (ASAM)is a key position within the KAL delivery team structure and is specifically responsible for the following staff / business units;

The position will report directly tothe KAL Activity Projects & Partnerships Manager and will play a key role in ensuring that KAL are presented with opportunities and developments through products, programming and partnerships, to support the progression of KAL’s Business Strategy and medium term financial plan.
The ASAMwill support the development ofrobust business plans and partnerships to enable KAL to maximise on commercial and operational utilisation. The ASAMwill be responsible for effectively managing partnerships and projects from implementation through to completion and operational delivery, ensuring the successful integrated management and implementation of new products and policies.
The ASAMwill manage the Group Lead Activators to develop and deliver on the KAL facility programmes.
The ASAM will have a focus to support the facility operations and corporate development departments on a range of strategic projects.
The ASAMwillengage with partners to maximise the opportunity for growth and development within the programmes.
KEY AREAS
Project Management
- Effectively lead the development and delivery of revenue projects and products.
- Ensure that a suitable, consistent project management methodology is followed.
- Review and share learning from completed projects to encourage the continuous improvement of project delivery.
- Identify and deliver on National trends and initiatives
Financial Management
- Provide input to budget and overall performance monitoring processes.
- Support the management of appropriaterevenue budgets.
- Support the development and monitoring of the budget for the Corporate Aquatic & Sports products, including future pricing strategies.
- Manage funding allocation effectively.
Working in Partnership
- Develop, manage and grow key partnership links advising the APPM of potential business developments
- Work with key partners to support the development of strategic partnerships, revenue projects and developmental initiatives
Operation Policy Development and Quality Standards
- Assist the Corporate team on the development, review and implement policies and procedures relevant to the post, gaining insight and industry best practice to ensure all Health & Safety regulations are achieved.
- Implement quality standards across all relevant areas measuring products against industry standards.
Aquatics & Sports product development and delivery
- Ensure effective and complimentary programming of allsports and aquatic products across KAL sites.
- Maintain the KAL Sport & Aquatics products at the highest possible standards.
- Assist the APPM to ensure the KAL Sport & Aquatics products remain competitive and innovative within the market and develop key USP’s against competitors.
Staff Management & Development
- Responsible for the supervision, training and development of all staff associated with the Sport and Aquatics Teams.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the whole delivery team and the staff of key partners, especially Kirklees Council and National Governing Bodies of sport.
- Support the internal and external voluntary sector.
A Criteria
Experience
- Have a minimum of 2 yearsleadership experience
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the KAL Business Strategy
- Experience in developing and implementing projects, from concept to implementation, that have a significant positive impact
- Experience in reviewing, adapting and implementing effective changes to activity programmes
- Experience of planning, analysing and actively managing budgets
- Experience in writing and presenting effective reports with clear recommendations
- Line management experience of diverse and high quality staff
- Experience of effectively managing and leading a variety of teams and successfully delivering against outputs and outcomes
- Experiencing of developing a range of successful commercial products
- Experience in leading a multi-site commercial Aquatics & Sports product.
- Experience of successfully managing relationships with partners.
Education
- Hold a suitable qualification, degree level(or ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience).
- GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent (NVQ L2)
- Hold as a minimum a Level 2 in Aquatics teaching / coaching
- Hold an additional qualification in the delivery of sport and activity

- Knowledge of customer service excellence and understanding of how this can be developed

Additional factors
- Willing to work flexible evenings and weekends where required.
- Able to travel to various sites in Kirklees and around the UK as required.
B Criteria
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and legislations.
- Manual Handling training or experience with lifting, carrying, setting up and dismantling equipment

The role of the Aquatic, Sports & Activity Manager is a Band 3 and you will be expected to demonstrate an ability to work at this level satisfying the majority of the behaviours (in Band 3) at application, then progressing until you are consistently meeting all the competencies within Band 3. You will already be able to demonstrate your ability to consistently meet all the competencies outlined within Bands 1 to 2 and will be able to give clear examples of how you do this.
