Prelude to a PCO meeting by Esther Mahnken
Nothing creates confusion more than fire trucks, firemen, and a real fire in the Shorey Building basement laundry area. Then there’s the speaker, who has the food, is in a wheelchair (but has others along to help her), but cannot get anywhere near the building to drop off the food and park. After help, the speaker’s entourage, with lunch arrived, along with several late program coordinators who were finally able to get to the room.
Welcome Everyone
Marcia Goodrich, PCO Chair, welcomed everyone at 12:25 pm.
Crye-Leike Realtors:
Peri Neale and Peggy Branson, Crye-Leike Realtors spoke about the services they offer as realtors in Little Rock. They offered their help to any faculty, residents, fellows, or even medical students. Peri said that they worked well with residents because her husband is a physician and she has been in their position. They like to work with first time buyers and low income families. She also stated that they’re only interested in what the family wants, can afford, and needs.
Wells Fargo Mortgage Company:
Cindy Tucker, with Wells Fargo Mortgage Co., said that they are in all 50 states. She stressed that the family must be pre-approved before thinking about buying. Their company takes debt and student loans into consideration while processing. They also have program to get families into a home without anything down called the 100% Program. She gave us some tips on what to ask when getting a loan.
Info from the DIO:
Ann Norwood spoke on:
1) Resident ACGME Survey beginning in January. The list will come out around January 10th.
2) She told us the difference between the ACGME Survey and the GME Survey. The GME is March through May. The ACGME begins in January.
3) TB Skin Tests will be included in a field within New Innovations. It is now being tested. It will be under “Certifications,” not under “Immunizations.” New Innovations will send out reminders when this is effective.
If you would like a copy of this informational handout, please contact Ann Norwood at or 501-526-7962.
Dr. Jim Clardy took a moment stating that the cycle visit is important for the residents to know about. Schedules for residents should be easy to understand for the system and in the PIF. If you have questions, you shouldn’t be afraid to ask the site visitor. The Site Visitor looks at the PIF, the last citation(s), the attachments, and the Internal Review. All of this must be clear and concise. He also reiterated that the PIF must be given to the GME office early so that they have plenty of time to read it and edit it before it goes to the Site Visitor.
New Innovation Updates:
Anna Moses said that all block schedules must be in place in New Innovations by January 29th. She will post a list of possible sessions, and is willing to do individual sessions.
Site Visits & Accreditation:
Dr. Mike Petty reminded us that the Programs will be notified as the 2007 Site Visits are announced. He went over a handout of the Internal Review Cycle, and reminded everyone to begin the PIF two years ahead of time. It is best to have a good site visit so that a program can obtain five year cycles. He stressed that the PIF must be ready early so that it can be thoroughly reviewed. The Site Visitor will look for errors in the PIF and/or differences in the PIF and actual documentation/review.
Marcia adjourned the meeting at 1:00 p.m., after applauding the speakers, thanks for the food, and the efforts of everyone to get to the meeting.
Mark your calendars for the next PCO meeting: February 6, 12:00 p.m. in Ed. II, 8th floor, Room 121. The focus topics will be the “Site Visit” presentation by Ann Norwood and “Resident Alumni Surveys” presented by Stacey Riddling. If anyone has anything for the announcements part of the meeting, please let Marcia know and she will put that on the agenda.
Please make plans to attend.
A special thank you to Esther Mahnken for taking the minutes for this meeting!
