Fun with Geometry!

Name ______Date Due: Thursday, February 17

Background: Geometric shapes are all around us! Look closely at any object and you will see that it is made up of polygons, lines, rays and angles! Throughout our unit on geometry, we have explored the following concepts: lines, line segments, angles, rays, vertices, triangles, quadrilaterals, other polygons, and congruent and similar figures.

Guidelines: Select one of the following project ideas. Use your creativity and what you learned about each geometric term to create the project of your choice.

·  You must complete your project on a white 11 x 18 piece of paper (provided by Mrs. West).

·  You may draw and color each item, or you may cut items out of colored construction paper and glue onto white background.

·  Your project must be colorful and completed neatly and accurately.

·  Each shape/item must be clearly labeled in black pen or black thin marker.

Project Choices:

·  Winter Sports

Choose your favorite winter sport and illustrate that sport using the required geometric shapes. Make sure to clearly label each shape and use accurate measurements.

*possible choices: downhill skiing, ski jumping, figure skating, speed skating, snowboarding, ice hockey, football, basketball, etc.

*example: mountains = isosceles triangles, skis = rectangles

·  My Dream Room

Create a floor plan of your ideal bedroom using the required geometric shapes. Make sure to clearly label each shape and use accurate measurements.

*Don’t forget to include items such as: your bed, furniture, closet(s), computer, TV, CD player, desk, chairs, etc.

*example: bed = rectangle, computer = square

·  A Snowy Day!

Think about your ideal snow day…what would it include? Create an illustration of this wondrous wintry weather using the required geometric shapes. Make sure to label each shape and use accurate measurements.

*possible ideas: sledding, snowboarding, hot chocolate, snowflakes, snowmen, etc.

*example: sled = trapezoid, snowflakes = octagons, hexagons, etc.

My Project Choice: ______Teacher approval: _____
