Gulf Watch Alaska Program Coordinator

Job Description

Lynker has an opening supporting the NOAA Fisheries, Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC), Auke Bay Laboratory (ABL) to support the Gulf Watch Alaska Program (GWA) located in Juneau, AK. The GWA long-term monitoring program needs a Technical Program assistant to facilitate program activities, goals, and deliverables. Tasks include assisting the GWA Program Lead and Science Coordinator with program coordination, communication, and program deliverables (e.g. reporting, work plans, publications, and outreach). The contractor shall also assist coordination of the GWA program activities with the EVOSTC, the Herring Monitoring and Research (HRM) program, NOAA offices, and other federal and state agencies and organizations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in and organizing integrated monitoring program planning
  • Preparing of planning documents for management team and scientists
  • Facilitating and coordinating program communication, data sharing, and compliance of scientists to meet deliverable requirements for the program and individual monitoring projects
  • Preparing and assembling large volume, integrated, program deliverables by their designated deadlines
  • Providing scientific editorial support for scientists and draft content for program products and publications
  • Drafting and collaborating on program outreach products and activities

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a clearly related field of study and one (1) year of advanced study (i.e. graduate program, certificate program etc.) is required. An emphasis on fisheries science or natural science is desirable. A minimum of one (1) year demonstrated experience related to administration of science-related programs is required.
  • Experience as editor/author for large volume technical and non-technical documents based on scientific research in Alaska and resource management policies. Demonstrated editorial experience with at least one of the following types of documents: EIS, NEPA, special issue journals or similar type documents.
  • Experience providing assistance, coordination, and communication to a large-scale, multifaceted scientific enterprise with a dozen or more individual projects.
  • Experience with tracking, compiling, and meeting hard deadlines with large volume deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and facilitating at least one of each of the following events: teleconferences, committee meetings, and workshops.
  • Experience with communicating technical issues to the general public.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 2010 Word or more recent version.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated editorial experience with each of the following types of documents: EIS, NEPA, and special issue journals.
  • At least 5-years of experience as a certified wildlife biologist or fisheries biologist participating in scientific studies (e.g. marine mammals, marine birds, waterfowl, or marine fishes) demonstrating knowledge and understanding of scientific processes and skills needed to conduct fieldwork in wilderness areas of Alaska.
