Activities Sheet

Complete any of the activities listed below to earn a stampin your“Every Hero Has a Story” log. If the activity needs to be turned in or checked out of the library, then have the librarian stamp your log. If the activity is completed at home, then have an adult sign your log. When all of your icons are signed or stamped, you have completed the program. Just turn the log in by the July 31st deadline. After each activity there may be a limit to the times you can use this activity to earn a stamp.

Summer Reading Activities

1.Read for 20 minutes.

2.Do the weekly “drop in” project at the library.

3.Be a neighborhood or community hero. Do something nice or charitable in your community.(Limit 1)

4.Earn a stamp for attending any special program that the library has this summer.

5.Make and decorate a super hero mask and take a picture of yourself in it. Show the picture to the librarian or bring in a copy for us to display. If you want help with a mask the library has some mask copies you can take home to get you started. (Limit 1)

6. Write a thank you to a local community hero and thank them for their service.

7.Draw a picture of yourself as a super hero. Write what your super powers would be. Turn it in at the library. (Limit 1)

8. Learn a about a hero from history and tell the librarian the name of your hero and why he / she is a hero. (Limit 1)

9.Make a small sculpture or statue of super hero, hero or villain and bring to the library. (Limit 1)

10.Choose a worksheet and complete it. They can be found at in the “Every Hero Has a Story” section or ask the librarian to show you. (Limit 2)

11. Unplug for one full day. Don’t watch TV, use video or electronic games, or any computer device.(Only use cellphones to make phone calls – no texting.) (Limit 2)

12.Create your own super hero name at – 1)

13.Cook or help cook asuper meal for your family. Find a new recipe from a library book or online and try it out (Limit 1)

14. Check out a graphic novel or comic book from the library. (Limit 1)

15.Check out FBI Kids Games at – (Limit 1)

16. Download an audio book, ebook, or movie from the library’s webpage – look for the link under the picture of the Mackinac Bridge or just search for e-books in our online catalog (Limit 2)

17. Check out a dvd that has a hero as the main character. (Limit 1)

18. Read and complete “The Scoop” newspaper. (Limit 1)

21.Every super hero needs a sidekick. Write a newspaper ad advertising to hire a sidekick. Be sure to list what qualifications your sidekick should have. Bring your add to the library(Limit 1)

22. Check out a book with a hero as a main character. (Limit 1)

23.Create your own comic strip. Go to –

25.Use the internet to find a picture of a famous American Monument. Print a picture of the monument and bring it to the library and tell the librarian the name of the monument, where it is located and one interesting fact about it. (Limit 1)

26. Complete the Every Hero Has a Story paint with water sheet. (Limit 1)

27.Be a Hero and donate one of the items listed to help someone in need. They items will stay right in your community and help local citizens who need them: tube of tooth paste, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, body wash, tooth brush, deodorant, toilet paper, dish soap or laundry soap (Limit 2)
