CONCERTS

All orchestras will perform on Thursday 13/7 and Friday 14/7. Venues to be confirmed.

COURSE FEE: (Per person)

R 1 800 -(full accommodation) for the first member of a family

R 1 600 -(full accommodation) for the second member of a family

R 1 000 -for non-residents, lunch included

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NEEDY PARTICIPANTS:

A limited number of scholarships are available. No monies will be paid for transport cost to and from the course. Application forms are included and must be completed by the candidate’s music teacher.

ENTRY PROCEDURE:

  1. An application form must be completed by the candidate’s music teacher and sent or faxed to the address on the front of this brochure on/before Wednesday 5 April 2006.
  2. Full payment for the accommodation and/or course fee must accompany the entry forms.

AUDITIONS:

-Auditions will be recorded by SANYO at all the main centres in the country.

-Placing will be done by a panel of specialists.

-An audition time and venue will be issued to you after receipt of entry form and payment.

-Candidates who would like to play auditions on more than one instrument, must please indicate that on the application form.

-Percussionists will do live auditions on 4 July in Cape Town, after registration.

Members who are chosen to be in the National Youth Symphony Orchestra will be notified on 15 May 2006.

All other placings will only be available on 4 July in Cape Town.

COURSE & HOSTEL RULES

- To maintain good order participants must abide by the Course rules. The organisers accept no responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or sickness, etc. Notification of any specific health problems should be given in writing.

- Hostel accommodation is available from 08:00 on Tuesday 4 July until 09:00 on Saturday morning 15 July.

- All hostel rules are applicable until rooms are vacated and keys returned.

- Hostel residents are responsible for the entire contents of the room allotted to them.

- Participants will be held accountable for any damage to UCT or hostel property.

- No resident may leave the hostel unofficially without the permission of the hostel supervisors. The hostels will be locked by the Security at 23:00. Lights out at 24:00.

- No liquor is allowed on the campus or in the hostel.

- Under no circumstances may a person visit residents of the opposite sex in their rooms nor be on the floors reserved for members of the opposite sex.

- The organisers reserve the right to penalise a participant for violation of the rules.

- In the event of serious misconduct a participant may be expelled from the hostel and /or course with no refund of fees.

-Application to the course implies acceptance of the rules.

SOLO COMPETITION FOR ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTS

-RONNIE & RHONA LUBNER MUSIC AWARDS-

A Solo Competition for orchestral instruments will be held on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 July at a venue (t.b.c.) in Cape Town. The following categories and prize money will be offered:

Category prizes:First prize for each category: R 5 000

Runner-up prize for each category: R 3 000

Over-all winner: R 15 000 as well as the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the National Youth

Symphony Orchestra in 2007.

Competition rules:

  1. All entrants must also attend the Orchestra Course.
  2. Minimum standard required for entrants: Post - Grade 8.
  3. Hostel accommodation will be available from 19:00 on 2 July 2006.
  4. Accompanists are available on request.
  5. Round 1: max. 15 minute programme

Final round: max. 15 minute programme (new works)

  1. Winners of the category prizes must compete for the over-all prize on Tuesday 4 July by presenting a 20 minute programme, consisting of works selected from the previous rounds.
  2. Candidates must complete the attached application form.
  3. Entries must reach the SANYO office by Wednesday 5 April 2006.
