TO: GMEC Members and Program Directors

FROM: Donald E. Girard, M.D., Associate Dean for GME

Patrick Brunett, Assistant Dean for GME

SUBJECT: Minutes of the GMEC Meeting 6/23/2011

1. GMEC reviewed the Letters of Accreditation for Geriatric Psychiatry and Molecular Genetic Pathology, both of which received five years’ accreditation and no citations! Congratulations.

2. Dr. Patrick Brunett presented the Letter of Accreditation for Emergency Medicine, which got five years’ accreditation and a couple of citations. The first citation had to do with attendance at conferences, which seemed to be an anomaly. The second issue had to do with a few types of cases that the residents seemed to be lacking, although the PIF and the residents’ logs show compliance in those areas. Dr. Miko Enomoto offered assistance from Anesthesiology to increase cases for the Emergency Medicine residents.

3. Dr. George Keepers presented the request to appoint Dr. Mark Kinzie as the new Program Director for Psychiatry. Dr. Kinzie’s CV was reviewed by GMEC and then this appointment was approved unanimously.

4. Dr. Girard presented the request to appoint Dr. Darin Friess as the new Program Director for Orthopaedics. Dr. Friess’s CV was reviewed by GMEC and his appointment was approved unanimously.

5. Dr. Neil Swanson presented the Progress Report for Procedural Dermatology. The portion that was completed was well done, but the goals and objectives still needed to be completed. The vote to approve was tabled and sent to GMEC Exec.

6. Dr. Holger Link providing a nice update on his presentations to programs regarding fatigue mitigation and sleep deprivation. Please note that it is required for each program to provide this education for both their faculty and residents/fellows.

7. GMEC Exec did not meet in June, but there was discussion about endorsing rotating membership.

Respectfully submitted and emailed to all Program Directors, Program Coordinators and GMEC Members.

Donald E. Girard, M.D.

Chair, GMEC
