SPECIAL NOTES!!!!

COMMUNITY CHOIR LEADERSHIP TRAINING - NEEDS VOLUNTEER SINGERS

Veterans and New Singers & Friends are Welcomed
At the Church of Truth, Thursday Oct 8 and/or Friday Oct. 9,
We need some volunteers to join in with CCLT to make up an ad hoc choir for CCLT people to practice their teaching on.
As the CCLT participants themselves are all very confident singers we are looking for ad hoc choir volunteers. All levels are welcome, including choir members, members who might not read music and don't necessarily catch on too quickly, and a friend or two you might bring along in order to present a more realistic situation for practice teaching.
As this round of CCLT has no men in it, we are especially hoping for some male tenors and basses to come sing with us.
If you would like to join in the fun for any or all of the four sessions:
Oct 8

Thursday Morning, 9:30 -12:00
Thursday Afternoon, 1:00 - 3:30
Oct 9

Friday Morning, 9:30 -12:00
Friday Afternoon, 100 - 3:30
Thank you!
Shivon, Denis and Gloria

WILL YOU BE STARTING, OR PAYING, LATE FOR THE GHC FALL SEASON?

If you plan on singing with us this season but won’t be either starting, or paying, until after Oct. 1st please register by email to

In doing so you will be assisting Gloria in producing and distributing the right numbers of everything and you will keep yourself in my communications loop (current members special announcement emails, “current singers only” section access codes, fall season contact list, etc.).

WOULD YOU LIKE TO ARRANGE CAR POOLING?

You can announce your request/offer at break time at choir (GHC or HNC). You can also submit an item to the newsletter at Please include your name, contact information, where you start from, whether you need a ride or are offering one and which choir you are in. I will put a listing under the appropriate Car Pool heading for you in the next newsletter. Don’t be shy about repeating your request in subsequent weeks at choir or in the newsletter if you don’t connect the first time.

POLITICAL NEWSLETTER SUBMISSIONS (repeat for those who missed it last week)

In case you are wondering in this election period what our newsletter’s policy is on submissions relating to politics here is our “Content Policy” from our site’s Using Our Newsletters page guide you as a submitter:

1) Write your items from the prospective of "I support" rather than "I'm against" and "This is good" rather than "That's bad."

2) Always stay mindful, and respectful, of the beliefs and opinions of others in our very varied community. Particularly in submissions whose contents are religious or political in nature. Please note that overt proselytizing in either case is not acceptable while a simple statement personal support for a religious or political group, aspect, activity or opportunity coupled with a link, or invitation, offering more information is ok.

COMMUNITY MEMBER’S SUBMISSIONS

SUPPORT FOR REFUGEES ON LESBOS ISLAND_ GREECE

Please read in this message about the desperate refugee situation on Lesbos island, where people arrive on beaches, floating by boat from Turkey, to escape war in their country. They walk for hours or days to get registered at a camp, and wait patiently for a boat to take them to Athens, hopeful to continue their journey to a country that will welcome them.

If you want to donate there is a link in the attachment. I have direct contact with my sister who lives in Mytilini, the port town on Lesbos.

WE NEED A BETTER CANADA FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN

I want to share this letter, which was in the Times Colonist last week, with our choir community as I think it sums up so well both the concerns that so many of us feel for our country and our desires for the direction we want our government to take, with the future of the next generation in mind.

COMMUNITY NETWORKING

SUPPORT WANTED FOR INSTRUMENTS4AFRICA

Many of you are already familiar with our NGO called Instruments4africa. For those of you who are not, we are working with a group of disadvantaged children in Bamako, the capital of Mali, one of the poorest countries in the world. Last year, we built an African style structure to house the dance and tutoring programs. Unfortunately a couple of months ago, the roof collapsed during the rainy season. We have launched a fundraising campaign to rebuild the roof so that the programs can be resumed as quickly as possible.

A very generous choir member has donated a deluxe spa hot tub which we are offering for sale on Craig’s List. If you're interested or if you know anybody who is looking for a hot tub, please check the following link:

To donate online or find out more about the project, go to www.innovativecommunities.org/region/mali

Thank you very much
