FRANKOSIL®1K liquid plastic revolutionises socket sealing in wood construction
For construction and weather reasons, the connection strip between the front of the bottom plate and the wall structure is one of the most vulnerable places in wood buildings.
As a logical consequence, the seal in this place is very important.
There are many alleged solutions on the market, but none was able to fully meet all the normative requirements so far.
The best-known examples for this include EVA, PVC and FPO or EPDM lanes that seal reliably but due to their minimum thickness are strongly diffusion-inhibiting at the same time. Their Sd-values are all about between 20 and 100m. This is a clear disadvantage for the wood construction, since residual moisture of the wood cannot or only inadequately escape outwards. The sealing strips also have weaknesses in processing, particularly in the connection area.
Polyolefin-based films are a little thinner and more flexible. They also protect the wall base from driving rain and splashing water, but they do not have the best diffusion locking values.
The first normative basics regarding the building seal in this area are provided by DIN 18195-4. The construction must be sealed against ground moisture and non-pressing leachate at bottom plates and walls.
The Austrian Önorm B-2802-3 is much more specific there: it demands an Sd-value four times higher on the inside than on the outside for the materials used. The seal of the wood lathes at the bottom plate ideally has an Sd-value of < 2m. This value is also recommended in the Appendix detail of the DIN V 2000-202:207: "Application of building products in buildings" standard.
With an Sd-value of 1.04m, the single-component liquid plastic FRANKOSIL®1K clearly beats this standard value, at the same time convincing with its outstanding product and processing properties.
FRANKOSIL®1K on a polyurethane-hybrid-basis is permanently elastic and crack-bridging. It is easy to use on many different bases and therefore at an advantage over the sealing lanes in detail connections such as floor-depth windows and doors.
Due to its outstanding ecological properties, FRANKOSIL®1K is more and more often used in objects the sustainability of which is described by certification systems such as DGNB, baubook or LEED.

Explanatory information on the Sd-value
The Sd-value (equivalent air layer thickness) indicates for each component layer which resistance is posed to seam. The component thickness (in m) is multiplied with the µ value of the material here, leading to the equivalent air thickness of the component (Sd-value).
This value expresses the diffusion resistance of a layer as equivalent thickness of an air layer with 1 m (µ air = 1).
