Appearance

Style of Dress

I expect you to arrive to work neat, clean, and well groomed. This position requires you to interact with students, staff, faculty, and the general public. Consequently, you need to make sure that your appearance or “style” is one that people do not find overly distracting or offensive.

Note: Contact me if you do not know whether your style of dress would be suitable for this position.

This position also requires you to occasionally work with or on unclean surfaces or materials. Therefore, I recommend that you not wear expensive or delicate clothes while on duty. You will need to lift or move heavy and/or oversized items at times as well. Therefore, I suggest that you avoid wearing shoes that have thin or no material protecting your feet. This will decrease your chances of suffering a serious injury in the event you accidentally drop an item on your foot or engage in other forms of physical labor.

Note: If you ignore the above, you do so at your own risk.

Vest

I will give you a maroon Computer Services’ vest on your first day at work. You must always it while on duty (unless on break). It is your responsibility to make sure that it remains clean and in good condition. I expect you to wear it as it was meant to be worn – not as some other article of clothing (such as a scarf or shawl).

You can either leave your vest at the workplace or take it home when your shift ends. Keep in mind that leaving it at the workplace opens up the possibility of having it worn by others. On the other hand, taking it home opens up the possibility of forgetting to bring it back to work. If that should happen, I can provide you with a spare vest. However, it may not be in a condition that you would find satisfactory.

Headphones

Finally, do not wear headphones while on duty. This includes placing them against one ear or wearing one earbud. It is deemed unprofessional & diminishes your ability to be aware of your surroundings.
