MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE MAYOR – NELSON MANDELA BAY SEVENS SERIES
A warm welcome to all players, coaches, organizers, supporters and fans to the Second IRB Sevens World Series tournament to be held in Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday and Sunday, 8 and 9 December. South Africa’s biggest rugby party will be aiming for a new record of 80 000 spectators over the two days, locals and holidaymakers enjoying the holiday atmosphere.
This tournament, which is the third leg of the HSBC Sevens series, will hope to see a repeat of the epic final between the Blitzbokke and New Zealand, but hopefully with a win for the Blitzbokke.
The tournament will now also feature a Tens tournament and will have its finals played on the Saturday during a break in the Sevens tournament. In addition, the a “South Stand” of the world-class Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will be put aside for fans dressed in brightly coloured fancy dress who will enjoy a “party atmosphere”, with non-stop DJs playing between games. On the Saturday evening, supporters will be able to watch a free music concert featuring musical acts by the outstanding DJ Reddy D, The Graham Watkins Project as well as Good Luck bands.
With the commitment of SARU and the NMBM behind the series, as well as support from our provincial administration, we are looking forward to an unforgettable rugby extravaganza. To attract as many rugby supporters as possible, SARU has not increased ticket prices, meaning a full day of international rugby costs as little as R80 at the tournament.
We wish to establish the Nelson Mandela Bay SA Sevens as one of the stand-out tournaments of the World Series, where talents will be uncovered, honed and polished. Come and experience our local crowd’s love for rugby and the spine-chilling rendering of the National Anthem!
See you at the game!
