Index Fund Manager – Irish Life Investment Managers

Irish Life Investment Managers (ILIM), the investment management company within Irish Life Assurance, part of Great-West Lifeco (GWL) Group, manages assets of over €65bn. ILIM provides investment products and solutions to both institutional and retail clients, offering a full range of active and indexed funds together with tailored investment solutions meeting specific clients objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Indexation, the successful applicant will have overall responsibility for the investment performance and processes of a subset of ILIM’s Indexed funds. In addition, he / she will assist in project work such as client restructures and product launches.

The Job holder will:

·  Manage an assigned set of index funds within tracking error limits.

·  Raise and instruct orders to match subscription & redemptions on each fund.

·  Analyse index rebalances and expected market impact. Propose trading strategies to minimise costs.

·  Identify and analyse corporate activity likely to give rise to opportunities to add value. This involves monitoring media and broker commentary and identifying situations where the index treatment is sub-optimal thereby offering potential to add value for clients.

·  Present to clients on the operations of the Index area, undertaking client site visits to explain the procedures in place for managing the index process

Key responsibilities include:

·  Complying with company rules, guidelines and risk controls in all areas of activity.

·  The Fund Manager has primary responsibility for performance of his / her allocated funds. This includes managing positions within the fund and deciding on appropriate trades including whether to trade stock or futures within the fund. The performance of each fund is part of the Indexed product sold by ILIM. This directly impacts on ILIM’s brand and reputation as an Indexed Investment Manager.

·  Manage Investing Funds within tracking error limits while taking advantage of Intelligent Tracking opportunities.

·  Manage in specie transfers of assets into / out of funds.

·  Generate added value for clients by managing index changes, reducing transaction costs and taking optimal decisions on corporate actions within risk budgets.

·  Research & implementation of new products.

·  Implement Modelling and Reporting for Indexed Funds on ILIM’s Order Management System.

The Person:

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

·  Ideally proven experience working as an Index Fund Manager or, at a very minimum, proven experience working within Fund Management.

·  A relevant third level qualification, MSc in Investment and Treasury/CFA or an equivalent suitable qualification.

·  .Exhibit a high level of numeracy and have good IT capabilities, especially MS Excel. An understanding of market systems such as CRIMS, Factset, Bloomberg and Barra would also be an advantage.

·  Self-motivated and demonstrate an enthusiasm for markets and the investment business.

·  Has highly honed problem solving skills, and can demonstrate an ability to analyse a situation where a problem has emerged and identify remedies to resolve the problem

·  Can exhibit excellent communication and influencing skills.

·  Has experience of consistently delivering to customer requirements.

·  Has a proven ability to plan and organise to ensure tight deadlines are met on a continuous basis.

Fitness & Probity

This role is a ‘controlled function’ as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that the appointee meets the requirements as set out in the Fitness and Probity standards issued by the Central Bank. This requires the company to complete prescribed due diligence to assess the appointee’s fitness and probity. Further details on this due diligence process are available from HR.
