What Planned Parenthood Doesn’t Want You to Know

By Josh Brahm: Director of Education and Public Relations, GRTL

Many people automatically associate Planned Parenthood with abortion. It’s appropriate; it’s by far their biggest business. However, is abortion giving Planned Parenthood a bad name? Perhaps they offer many good services, and abortion is just the one unpopular service they offer. Many services, you ask? What else does Planned Parenthood do besides abortions? Read on.

Abortion

It’s impossible to write about Planned Parenthood without at least mentioning abortion. Consider a few brief facts: Planned Parenthood

is the nation’s leading abortion performer and promoter. In 2001, Planned Parenthood’s clinics performed 16% of the nation’s abortions, killing 213,026 babies.1 If September 11 happened 71 times, you get that many deaths… almost. If you look at the chart, you can see that Planned Parenthood’s plans typically don’t involve parenthood. Allow me to quote them: “Babies are loud, smelly and expensive. Unless you want one.” 2

Free Abortions to 9/11 and Katrina Victims

After Hurricane Katrina shattered the lives of millions of people in the South, abortion advocates offered them morning after pills and free abortions instead of food, shelter or money to rebuild.

It wasn't long before Atlanta was doing the same. Atlanta Women’s Medical Center began offering free abortion and gynecological care to Katrina evacuees on a case-by-case basis. "This just adds to the destruction these women already have in their lives," said Caryl Swift, the president of GRTL. "Many have already lost family members. They have all lost property. Taking the lives of unborn children who have survived the hurricane is the wrong response."

"Choice on Earth" Christmas Cards

Since 2002, Planned Parenthood has marketed it's Christmas cards and t-shirts, with the phrase "Choice on Earth." The controversial theme is a distortion of a passage in the Gospel of Luke, where an angel announces to shepherds the birth of their Savior in Bethlehem. "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to all whom God favors." (Luke 2:14; NLT) "What 'choice on Earth' really means is 'abortion on Earth,' said Jim Sedlak, the executive director of STOPP. "In the season that celebrates the birth of Jesus, it is absolutely outrageous to have cards celebrating the death of babies." If Planned Parenthood had existed 2,000 years ago, it would have targeted Mary, an unwed, pregnant teenager, for a profitable abortion.

Places a Wedge Between Parents and Children

Planned Parenthood purposefully places a wedge between parents and children. One of the ways they do this is by providing birth control to minors without parental knowledge. They also portray parents as weak and incompetent in their literature. For example, in the introduction to PPFA’s website for teenagers, parents are essentially told to back off and let the Planned Parenthood “experts” take over the sex education of their children. “We understand that many teens are uncomfortable talking to their parents about sex… Please remember that this web site is for teens. This is their place. Take a look around if you like, but we prefer that you do not register on the site.” I could go on for pages.

Promotes Promiscuity in Teens

Planned Parenthood encourages all forms of sexual activity to teens. Planned Parenthood’s pamphlets and teen website graphically promotes “activities” that are too shameful to write about. Planned Parenthood teaches that there are no wrongs regarding sexual activity as long as the participants want to do what they’re doing. A typical PPFA brochure states, “The Real Question Is: What’s Right For You? You Decide!” Planned Parenthood strongly opposes “abstinence-only” sex education programs that focus on abstinence before marriage. They do this because they know that teens are 20% of their clientele. The more sex teens have, the more abortions they will need in the future. They have even paid teens to promote Planned Parenthood among their friends, classmates and peers! For example, Planned Parenthood worked out an arrangement with the school system in Morrow County, Ohio in which teenagers were paid $100 to be trained as “outreach workers.” (This program was paid for with taxpayer funds.)

Protects Statutory Rapists

Life Dynamics exposed a nationwide cover-up of the sexual abuse of minors by Planned Parenthood. The law in every state of our country states that clinic workers must file a report when they suspect sexual abuse, including statutory rape. The fact is, abortion clinics almost never file any reports, allowing teenagers to continue in their abusive relationships by giving them an abortion and burying their records. To prove this, Life Dynamics hired a 23-year old woman with a young-sounding voice to pose as a 13-year-old girl who thought she was pregnant by her 22-year-old boyfriend. She called nearly 1,000 “family planning” centers across the country, including most Planned Parenthood facilities. Most of these calls were taped, and in about 80% of the calls to Planned Parenthood centers, the clinic workers agreed to conceal or knowingly ignore the suspected felony statutory rape, often even acknowledging the criminal nature of the relationship. Here are just two examples of these taped conversations:

An employee at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Okolona, Kentucky, when asked if the clinic would report the 22-year old boyfriend, replied, “Well, I’ll be honest with you. By

law because you are thirteen years old, we should. Now, we’ve never reported anybody. OK?”

One Planned Parenthood clinic worker suggested the caller could have the boyfriend keep “a year’s worth” of Planned Parenthood-supplied birth control pills in his possession (thereby ensuring that the sexual abuse could continue in secret.) For more information, visit www.childpredator.com.

Population Control

Planned Parenthood is a huge proponent of population control in the world. In a 1984 advertisement, Planned Parenthood stated, “We…have spent the better part of the century supporting and fighting for everyone’s freedom to make their own decisions about having children.” Apparently, this “freedom” doesn’t apply to people in China. Planned Parenthood has never criticized China’s brutal one-child per family policy that forces women to have abortions if they’re pregnant with their second. In fact, they even write, “Few women dispute that women's lives are better now than in the past…” because of China’s “family planning programs.” Ironically, many Americans don’t even know that this is still going on. In fact, China’s population control program has resulted in tens of millions of abortions, and more than one million cases of infanticide (mostly of baby girls.)3

Sadly this isn’t the only case of Planned Parenthood supporting population control worldwide. Alan Guttmacher, Planned Parenthood’s former president predicted the “possibility that eventually coercion (in population programs) may become necessary.” He told a reporter that such force may be especially needed “in areas where the pressure is the greatest, possibly in India and China.” Besides compulsory abortion, Planned Parenthood’s population control programs also include forced sterilization for those who have had two children.4

Selling of Body Parts

Planned Parenthood has been caught selling body parts to companies that then sells them for research. One such company, Opening Lines, offered body parts - “the freshest tissue available” - to researchers at the following prices: Limbs (at least 2) $150. fetal spinal cord - $325, fetal reproductive organs - $550, fetal brains - $999 (30% discount if significantly fragmented), etc.5 In fact, this is most likely why the partial birth abortion procedure was developed: to keep most of a babies’ body parts intact for sale after their death. For more information about this gruesome practice, email the Director of Education at .

Use of Tax Dollar Money

Last but not least, Planned Parenthood uses your tax dollars to carry out their agenda. Even though Planned Parenthood has hundreds of millions of dollars in reserve and ends each year with an average $20 million in “excess revenue over expenses,” lobbyists for this non-profit organization are in Congress and the state legislatures every year fighting for more government funding. As it is, one third of their income comes from government grants like Title X, paid for by the taxpayers. In fact, Planned Parenthood receives three times more money from our tax dollars then the amount of income they make from performing abortions!

Conclusion

Planned Parenthood is much more than a “family planning service” offering “compassionate care at an affordable cost.”1 They are destroying our nation’s families. Testimony after testimony comes out of abortion clinics, with the doctors talking about being hesitant at first about taking such a horrific job as killing babies, but the paycheck was too much to give up. (Many doctors take as much as $250 to $500 from each abortion, in cash.)6

So What Can We Do?

Begin by opening up the communication lines with your teens about God’s design for sexuality. Send them to www.lovematters.com, a very well done website for teens. Let your public officials know that you do not want your tax dollars to go to Planned Parenthood. Contact your school board members and ask them to keep Planned Parenthood out of your local schools. If that is unsuccessful, you have a right to request equal time to share the abstinence/pro-life viewpoint with students. Georgia Right to Life can help by using high-impact, multi-media presentations we’ve developed for situations like that. Boycott companies which give to Planned Parenthood, by visiting www.fightpp.org. For other ways to fight Planned Parenthood, visit www.stoppinternational.org.
