Unit Objective: Students will be able to recognize a variety of instruments including brass, woodwind, string, and percussion groups.
Lesson 1:
Using the ipads and apps, students will study pictures of brass instruments. Students will play and research the instruments and work to identify each instrument individually. Students will then use pictures and the learning packet to distinguish the brass instruments from other groups of instruments.
Lesson 2:
Using the ipads and apps, students will study pictures of woodwind instruments. Students will play and research the instruments and work to identify each instrument individually. Students will then use pictures and the learning packet to distinguish the woodwind instruments from other groups of instruments. Students will study the shape and sound of each instrument in the group.
Lesson 3:
Using the ipads and apps, students will study pictures of stringed instruments. Students will play and research the instruments and work to identify each instrument individually. Students will then use pictures and the learning packet to distinguish the stringed instruments from other groups of instruments.
Lesson 4:
Using the ipads and apps, students will study pictures of percussion instruments. Students will play and research the instruments and work to identify each instrument individually. Students will then use pictures and the learning packet to distinguish the percussion instruments from other groups of instruments. Students will study the shape and sound of each instrument in the group. Students will form groups and practice listening and identifying the sounds and shape of each instrument.
Lesson 5:
As a review, the teacher will go over all four groups of instruments. Students will finish completing the learning packet as a review. Students will play a game to see who can identify the instrument using the smart board. Students will also stand up and tell their favorite instrument that they learned.
The students will assessed orally using the smart board. This will be an informal assessment, but on the post test, instruments will be included in the assessment.
