Position: Facilitator/Counsellor - Job Search Workshop

Program description: To provide newcomers to Canada with orientation and introduction to Job search techniques, support and monitor their post-workshop achievements.

REPORTS TO: JSW Program Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES:

¨  Work as part of the JSW team to ensure smooth delivery and coordination of service to clients

¨  Development and delivery of job search workshops based on the COSTI/OCASI Tools for success Trainers manual

¨  Assist clients with resumes, cold calling, interview skills, and action plan development

¨  Support clients in establishing employer contacts and job leads and in securing Work Experience Placements

¨  Provide individual counselling support to clients and make suitable referrals as needed

¨  Identify and access additional resources, such as internal and external guest speakers, resource materials, articles and program support information

¨  Undertake outreach, orientation, assessment and intake functions as assigned by Coordinator

¨  Assist in developing employer contacts, hosting employer recognition events and in marketing JSW clients for employment and placements

¨  Work with coordinator in designing and updating workshop material

¨  Maintain statistics on client/service activities including follow up and report as required

¨  Assist with updating and closing client files and in entering information in the ICAM system

¨  Assist in the evaluation of the program’s effectiveness and present solutions to enhance service effectiveness on an ongoing basis and as part of the larger agency service system

¨  Participate in team meetings, staff meetings and all other Board and committee meetings as required

¨  Handle other duties as assigned by coordinator or manager program and services

Program Outcomes

¨  Job Search workshops are provided to a target of 270 clients per year based on a 24 hour day model and 21 hour evening model.

¨  Goal of 60% employment outcomes within three months of program completion

¨  To liaise with other programs providing a complete integration of clients into the services of Skills for Change.

SKILLS, EDUCATION AND ATTRIBUTES

¨  Post Secondary degree in related discipline or equivalent work experience

¨  A minimum of two years experience in employment counselling/group facilitation

¨  Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

¨  Strong interpersonal and customer service skills as well as a positive attitude towards change

¨  Sensitivity to, and understanding of, issues of concern to the immigrant community

¨  Initiative, energy and persistence to complete tasks as well as excellent time management and teamwork skills

¨  Problem solving skills and resourcefulness in meeting clients’ employment support needs

¨  Experience in developing employer contacts and marketing an asset

¨  Computer literate ; ability to do Power point presentations an asset

¨  Completion of COSTI Job Search workshop facilitator training an asset

Time Required: 35 hours per week, including some evening hours for workshop delivery

SALARY RANGE: 38,167 –40,167per annum START DATE: Immediately

CONTRACT PERIOD: Until September 30, 2007

Renewal of this contract is dependent upon funding. The program has been funded since 1998.
