Job Description

Port Talbot and Afan Women’s Aid (PTAWA) is an established and well respected organisation delivering support and services to women and families impacted by domestic abuse. Neath Port Talbot Mind have a well-proven track record of supporting people, their families and carers of those who are experiencing mental and emotional wellbeing issues. Both organisations are proud to work as partners on this project and look forward to developing the strong existing relationship that we already have.

Funded by BIG Lottery, we have created a fully integrated new service provision that responds to the combined needs of both service user groups; many of whom access both PTAWA and NPTMind services.The key ambition of the LIFE project is to create a sustainable, user-led, ongoing provision, that will enable often vulnerable service-users to access support beyond their period of crisis, as and when they need it, and in a format that they want. The project aims to bring together a range of activities that will promote recovery, well-being and awareness raising, with the aim of empowering women to come together to help themselves and each other on their journey towards a positive and health future.

The Mental Health Resilience Officer will work with other Life Project staff to ensure that women survivors of domestic abuse will have ongoing support following crisis and be enabled to develop their emotional and mental health resilience through a range of services in the NPT area. You will be responsible for facilitating groups and working on the engagement of women to the project encouraging participation and volunteering, as well as supporting women to take a leading role in the project development. The post will run the coffee mornings, volunteer session and activities with support from the Project Manager and will also undertake delivery of the CBT Reclaim Your Life programme, the Recovery Tool Kit and Peer Mentoring Training for which you will be required to be trained up in if you do not already hold the qualification.

You will help with project monitoring and evaluation and ensure that service users are referred into other appropriate services where needed. Multi-agency working will be an expectation of the role.

You will be someone who can provide a high level service to clients, ensuring that service standards are consistent. You will model high quality practice in your own work, ensuring that service user involvement and person centred approaches are embedded in service values.

You will make links with key partners to ensure a comprehensive package of support is available for those with complex needs and referral pathways into the project are robust. You will take responsibility for making referrals and ensuring information is shared appropriately and in line with data protection confidentiality procedures.

You will ensure that comprehensive records of outcomes and activities of theservice is regularly update to the online database.

Things you need to know

A disclosure and barring security check is required for this role.
Successful candidates will be based between PTAWA Head office and Neath Port Talbot Mind. You will be required to work from the Domestic Abuse One Stop Shop Neath Port Talbot, Market Chambers (Neath) and other community venues.
The post is exempt under the Sex Discrimination Act Section 7(2)(e) and is open to women only.

Job Purpose
To deliver the LIFE Projectwith the purpose of empowering survivors of domestic abuse and mental illness to form and maintain support networks in the community through a variety of activities suggested, planned and evaluated by service users.
Key accountabilities
1 / Offer support and guidance to service users. Attend regular supervision sessions with the Director of NPT Mind. Attend regular project reviews and outcome audits with the LIFE Project Manager.
2 / Provide a high quality service, ensuring that all elements of the project are service user focused, inclusive, and promote empowerment.
3 / Support and hostregular consultation events to ascertain the practical, emotional and service delivery needs of women in accordance with PTAWA policy and funder requirements.
4 / Stay up to date with other local service provision and opportunities for partnership working. Alongside this you will ensure that the referral route into the project is clear and straightforward for individuals and wider professionals.
5 / Refer women (internally and externally) for specialist support; maintaining collaborative working relationships with all PTAWA staff, NPT Mind staff and partners.
6 / Deliver the Recovery Tool Kit programme, CBT Reclaim Your Life programme, Peer Mentoring Training and any other training as and when required.
7 / Regularly attend and contribute to operational team meetings.
8 / Keep appropriate records utilising the organisations electronic database.
9 / Support the LIFE Project Manager to produce monitoring reports, collate outcome data, examples of additionality, and case studies.

Person Specification

Criteria / Essential / Desired
Education and Qualifications / At least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant field, i.e. Health and Social care or Advice & Guidance
Educated to a high standard and/or at least 2 years’ relevant working experience. / NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant field
Experience / At least 2 years experience of working with vulnerable people and assessing their needs
Risk assessment and risk management for vulnerable women
Developing client-centred programmes of activity / Delivering training to clients and professionals
Monitoring and evaluation report writing
Experience of working in a supportive role with women affected by domestic abuse and mental health issues
Knowledge, skills
and abilities / Knowledge of issues around domestic and sexual violence and abuse and its effects on women and children
