PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1EXAMINATION

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph only if the material is applied over a waterproofing system specified in another section. Delete if not required.

  1. Do not begin installation until waterproofing specified in Section 07130 has been properly installed and that substrate has been properly preparedfor waterproofing installation.
  1. Do not begin installation until subsurface is smooth and sound.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following paragraph only if a subdrain piping system specified in another section is required. Delete if not required.

  1. Do not begin installation until substrate has been properly preparedfor subsurface drain installation. Before beginning installation, inspect to ensure that perimeter subgrade has been excavated to within plus or minus 0.5 feet of design elevation.
  1. If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2PREPARATION

  1. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select the Enkadrain Composite product(s) installation methods for the product specified from the following paragraphs as required for the project and delete those not required.

3.3WATERPROOFING COMPOSITE INSTALLATION

  1. Install in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions.
  1. Apply Waterproofing Composite Sheet Membrane in clear dry weather at recommended temperatures.
  1. Measure the height needed. Cut piece from roll to correct length.
  1. Vertical Surfaces: In a blindside wall application, place the drainage composite first against the lagging wall or shotcrete. Next place Enkdri Pour & Proof composite with the membrane side against the drainage composite and the entangled filaments towards the concrete pour side.
  1. Horizontal Surfaces: Place drainage composite on the sub-grade, then lay the waterproofing composite with the membrane side against the drainage composite and the entangled filaments up.
  1. Lap side joints 3 inches (76 mm). Lap head joints in a shingle fashion 6 inches (152 mm). Reinforce lap head joints with a minimum 12 inches (305 mm) wide detail strip of Sub-Seal 60 (MFM Building Products Corp.) centered on joint. Cover entire surface of wall.
  1. Apply uniform pressure with a hand roller to the entire surface of all overlapping joints. Use particular care at lap joints.
  1. Apply drainage composite as soon as possible. Do not displace sheet membrane during composite installation and backfilling operations.

3.4DRAINAGE COMPOSITE INSTALLATION

  1. Install in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select one of the following two installation paragraphs and delete the paragraph not required. The vertical method is suitable for most applications. The Horizontal method is more suitable for deep walls where it is desirable to work from bottom up with backfill placed in lifts. Refer to the Enkadrain installation guide or contact Colbond for technical assistance.

  1. Vertical Method:
  2. Measure the height needed; add approximately 2 feet (610 mm) to cover drain at bottom of wall.
  3. Cut piece from roll to correct length.
  4. Trim 5 inches (127 mm) of black mesh from edge and adhere geotextile fabric to the wall. Drainage composite may also be mechanically attached using a treated wood or metal termination bar placed along the top edge of the drainage composite and fastened with power actuated fasteners.
  5. Drape strips over drain pipe at bottom and hold in place with stones or soil. Each Enkadrain strip has a nominal 2.5 inch (64 mm) fabric overlap on one edge. At regular 2 foot (610 mm) intervals, glue fabric overlap over the previously installed strip.
  6. Backfill as soon as possible. Do not displace drain strip during backfill operations.
  1. Horizontal Method
  2. Cut piece from roll to required length.
  3. Place strips with the fabric overlap down and temporarily tape top edge to wall.Tape vertical butt joints with 2 inch (51 mm) duct tape.
  4. Drape strips over drain at bottom and hold in place with stones or soil. Each Enkadrain strip has a nominal 2.5 inch (64 mm) fabric overlap on one edge. At regular 2 foot (610 mm) intervals, glue fabric overlap over the previously installed strip.
  5. Backfill to within 4 to 5 inches (102 to 127 mm) of top edge of installed sheet.
  6. Place each successive horizontal piece with fabric overlap shingled over and with a minimum fabric overlap of 2.5 inch (64 mm). Stagger vertical butt joints and tape with 2 inch (51 mm) duct tape.
  7. Backfill to within 4 to 5 inches (102 to 127 mm) of top edge.
  8. If desired, cut and pre-glue strips of Enkadrain into convenient shapes to fit various wall configurations in a manner recommended by the manufacturer.
