CASE MANAGER –Family Violence Support & Advocacy
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Permanent Part time Position:
Start date as soon as possible, applications close 27thJuly 2015
After the applicant successful completion of a 6 month probationary period
Hours: 5.5 hrs per week, including one overnight shift (shift penalty applies) - Saturday Night
Other shifts may be available
Reports to:
/ Team Leader
Remuneration: As per SCHCADS Award
Internal Relations:
Case Manage collaboratively with other team members as required
External Relations:
  • Collaboration with Crisis service
  • Liaison and collaboration with relevant external support & referral agencies

Conditions Mandatory:
  • An Australian National Police Check will be required pre-commencement of employment
  • Incumbent must hold a current Working with Children Check Card
  • Incumbent must sign and abide by the Staff Code of Professional conduct
  • Incumbent must hold a current unrestricted Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Incumbent must sign a Safety Screening Statutory Declaration (part of employment contract)

Organisational Context

Georgina Martina Inc. is a community based organisation which operates a state-wide family violence support and accommodation service including two high security refuges – Georgina and Martina.The organisation is committed to a feminist approach to service delivery that views women as the experts in their own lives.

Georgina Martina Inc’s services target:

  • women and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • women without children
  • older women
  • women with mental health issues
  • Women with substance abuse issues.
  • women and children without permanent residency

Both Martina and Georgina refuges are high security crisis accommodations, ensuring women and children experiencing family violence can feel safe.

The organisation operates an outreach support service for women and children who have moved on from high security accommodation. We maintain a number of properties for longer-term support and work closely with mainstream housing services to ensure appropriate exit points from the service.

Primary Objectives of the Position

Within the parameters of the constitution, service philosophy and the policy framework, and under the direction and supervision of Team Leader, the Case manager,will:

  • Provide a crisis response and support service to women and children who have experiencedand are escaping family violence
  • Assist women to determine their options, identify relevant service pathways and advocate for required support
  • Respond to family violence as criminal acts against women and children
  • Contribute ideas and feedback in the ongoing quality improvement of Georgina Martina

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a crisis response, support and advocacy service to women and children experiencing family violence and residing in Refuge
  • Ability to provide intensive Case Management: Initial Risk Assessment and review, develop Case plan, refer to appropriate external supports, holistically address all area of women’s need (emotional, psychological, material, training, employment, recreational, legal, cultural), exit to alternate housing.
  • Work collaboratively with the service users of Georgina Martina Inc. in a respectful manner and with dignity and sensitivity to enable them to identify their needs and priorities
  • Assist service users in assessing their priorities and appropriate service pathways, in the context of their immediate and medium term safety and support needs
  • Assist, in conjunction with service users and other Georgina Martina Inc. staff, in forming achievable case plans that best suit the identified needs of the service user
  • Liaise, communicate and act in an advocacy role with a range of agencies on behalf of the service user in a manner that optimizes her access to support and positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to the organisation through participation in staff meetings, case management meeting and service development sessions
  • Assist in the collation, update and maintenance of resource files and databases (SHIP).
  • Maintain a professional standard of writing: service user file notes and data base
  • Attend and participate in regular relevant professional development and training as directed
  • Participate in any ongoing internal evaluations,organisational activities, performance reviews
  • Assist in the development of procedures to improve the quality of service to service users
  • Participate in the collation of resourcing
  • Contribute to a positive team dynamic and work environment
  • Any other duties as directed by the Line Manager that are reasonable, are in accordance with the service philosophies, meet with health and safety standards and are necessary for the general operation of Georgina Martina Inc.
Supervision

The incumbent is required to engage in formal internal and individual supervision as directed and deemed necessary by the Team Leader.

Performance Appraisal

The incumbent is required to participate in formal performance appraisal and any other appraisal systems as directed by the Team Leader/CEO.

Qualifications
  1. Qualifications in social and community services and/or substantial relevant experience and expertise in the provision of a family violence response.
  2. Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate (or willingness to gain one).
  3. Current Australian Driving License- Mandatory

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated understanding of the gendered nature of family violence and its impact on women and children.
  2. A demonstrated understanding of the specific issues for women and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who are affected by family violence
  3. Demonstrated skills, ability and experience in complex assessment and case management with women and their children who are escaping family violence
  4. An excellent understanding of feminist frameworks and perspectives and the ability to apply these to the practices of the organisation
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member in a challenging environment
  6. Appropriate skills to participate in program development, quality improvement and evaluation
  7. Well demonstrated written and computer literacy skills
  8. High level interpersonal and communication skills, advocacy, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  9. Preparedness to work across multiple sites and outreach
  10. This role requires you to be involved in shift work, therefore availability to work after hours and overnights as required.
