Professor of Practice in Technical Entrepreneurship – New Product Development
Lehigh University seeks applications and nominations for a full-time,12-month, non-tenure trackProfessor of Practice for Lehigh’s new Master of Engineering in Technical Entrepreneurship in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics in the PC Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The term of the initial appointment is three years and is renewable following satisfactory annual performance reviews. This position reports to the director of Lehigh’s Technical Entrepreneurship (TE) program who in turn reports to the Associate Dean of Engineering for Research and Graduate Studies. The College of Engineering at Lehigh is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their teaching, scholarship and/or service to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The TE Masters is an award-winning, cross-disciplinary program housed in the Wilbur Powerhouse complex on Lehigh’s main campus. The position is affiliated with Lehigh’s Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation, which aims to nurture a culture of entrepreneurship across the university, promote innovative thinking, and foster the realization of entrepreneurial ideas in any field.
Candidates should have strong credentials in any STEM fieldand substantial experience in new productdevelopment with significant engineering of hardware and/or software systems leading to commercialization. Desirable areas of expertise includebut are not limited to medical devices, consumer products, mechanical systems, robotics, energy,transportation, electronics, software, informatics, or related fields. The ideal candidate will have hands-on, real-world experience inproduct development from opportunity scanning to product launch and customer support, including: conceptual, detailed, and industrial design,creativity methodologies, intellectual property creation and management,and prototype fabrication and testing. The successful candidate will also have experience in project management and fundraising, finance, budgeting as an entrepreneur and/or intrepreneur. In addition, demonstrated excellence in curriculum development, teaching and mentoring at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels are critical attributes for this position.
This position is one of multipleLehigh faculty to support the growing discipline of technical entrepreneurship. Technical entrepreneurship faculty and students are from across the spectrum of academic degrees with diversity encouraged. Successful candidates will work withthe TE program director to continuously refine the curriculum, recruit and retain students, explore extracurricular activities, serve as academic advisor for TE students,workwith and monitorstudent entrepreneurs, and strengthen ongoing relationships with the innovation,design, product development and entrepreneurship communities. For example, the successful candidate is expected to be an active participant in Lehigh’s Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN) supporting entrepreneurial mindset learning.
