Jaipur. The world famous Jaipur Foot will soon be manufactured in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul. The Jaipur Foot artificial l limb centre was inaugurated in Kabul on Tuesday at the National Institute of Disabled(NID) by the Afghanistan’s deputy minister for labour,martyrs, social affairs and disabled Jamila Afghan. The Afghanistan government also signed an MoU with the makers of the Jaipur Foot Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti of Jaipur.
During the inauguration of the artificial limb centre at NID, D.R Mehta, the founder and chief patron of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti who was specially invited by the Afghanistan government was also present. Senior officials of the Afghanistan government and Indian embassy in Kabul were also present.
Deputy minister Jamila Afghan said the opening of the artificial limb centre with the assistance of the BMVSS at Kabul will help large number of the Afghan amputees who would be able to walk with dignity now.
She said the Jaipur Foot is rated as a high technology artificial limb over and the very fact that itis used in 28 countries all over the world is a testimony of the richness and quality of the product. She said after the setting up of the Jaipur Foot centre in NID the disabled of Afghanistan would be able to get Jaipur Foot easily.
D R Mehta said that the Jaipur Foot has so far rehabilitated 15 lakh disabled persons in Indian and other countries. He said that the Jaipur Foot has been able to make its mark because of its low cost and high quality.
Mehta signed an MoU with the Afghanistan government on technical and humanitarian collaboration. The M oU on behalf of the Afghanistan government was signed by the deputy minister Jamila Afghan and Mehta signed it on behalf of BMVSS
Under the M OU the BMVSS would provide 1000 artificial limbs in the first year and later on would gift 3000 foot pieces every year.The BMVSS would also provide the NID various material required for making the artificial limb at cost price.
The BMVSS would also train the doctors and the technicians free of cost.
According to the MoU the NID’s artificial limb centre would be known as NID Kabul-Jaipur Foot Artificial Limb Centre..
The BMVSS has so far conducted five artificial limb fitments centres a in Afghanistan and has benefitted 4000 amputees. The last camp was conducted in June last year where 817 persons were provided artificial limbs. A camp will be conducted in Afghanistan next year with the patronage of a financial institution.
