What is the song ‘Stupid Girls’ about?

The song ‘Stupid Girls’ was written and performed by pop artist P!nk in April 2006. Infamous celebrity behaviour was the inspiration for this song. It was also inspired by many incidents caused by celebrities such as Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Naomi Campbell and Lindsay Lohan.
The song begins with the lines ‘Stupid girl, stupid girls, stupid girls
Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back.’ This is explaining how ridiculous it is for girls to act like someone else just to get a date with a guy. The next lines are ‘Porno paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl.’ These lines refer to how Paris Hilton released a pornography video in 2005 and how that this is the kind of behaviour P!nk disagrees with.
The opening line of the second verse is ‘Go to Fred Segal, you'll find them there laughing loud so all the little people stare’, meaning that you’ll probably find celebrities in some expensive shop talking loudly so everyone can hear. The next lines are ‘Looking for a daddy to pay for the champagne (Drop a name)’, is about how people such as Paris and Britney hangs around bars, etc waiting for some guy to pick up the bill for them. ‘What happened to the dreams of a girl president she's dancing in the video next to 50 cent,’ is asking what happened to the girls who were going to achieve something, they’re out causing trouble and being naughty to fit in. ‘They travel in packs of two or three with their itsy bitsy doggies and their teeny-weeny tees’ is the next line of this song. I have interpreted these lines to mean that celebrities travel in selective little groups and there never by themselves, wearing skimpy little t-shirts and carrying dogs that they’ve picked up spontaneously. ‘Where, oh where, have the smart people gone? Oh where, oh where could they be?’ is asking the public the question where have the individual, smart, sensible people gone.
The second verse is followed by the chorus: ‘Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back, porno paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl, baby if I act like that, flipping my blonde hair back push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl.’ This is P!nk, saying that if girls acted like a celebrity, flipping their hair and pushing up their bra, they would get a boyfriend, which is not true. The chorus is repeated after each verse and is repeated at the end of the song.
The third verse starts with ‘(Break it down now) the disease's growing, it's epidemic I’m scared that there ain't a cure’ which is pointing out how everyone is wanting to be popular, wanting more and how that more and more people are doing it. It’s also about how some people are worried that there is no cure for anorexia or bulimia. The next lines ‘The world believes it and I’m going crazy, I cannot take any more’ relay that the world believes all the things about celebrities even if it’s fake and that some normal people can’t take anymore of Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears. The lines ‘I'm so glad that I'll never fit in that will never be me’ are from a outcast’s point of view, they are trying to express how happy they are that they will never be a stuck-up celebrity, this is followed by ‘Outcasts and girls with ambition that's what I wanna see’ which are people telling children to not be afraid to be different or weird. ‘Disasters all around, world despaired and their only concern
will they f*** up my hair?’ refers to accidents caused by celebrities and how the world is upset by it, however the celebrities are only concerned about their body image. The chorus ‘Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back porno paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl baby if I act like that, flipping my blonde hair back push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl’ is then repeated again.
The fourth verse starts with the line ‘Pretty will you f*** me girl, silly as a lucky girl pull my head and suck it girl, stupid girl!’ which is repeated twice .This line is about when Paris Hilton released a pornographic video in 2005/2006, there is also a referral to this in the chorus. The chorus is then repeated twice.
The song ‘Stupid Girls’, by P!nk was written in response to infamous celebrities, to tell the public about them. It is also about how young girls are influenced by celebrities. I chose this song because I like it and also because the moral/message is important to me.
