Nominee Criteria

1.  Must be a parent mentor for a local school district a minimum of two years or a special education administrator responsible for supervising a local parent mentor program and had a parent mentor on staff for two or more years. (Current GaPMP Leadership Council Chair is not eligible.)

2.  Must demonstrate:

ü  effective partnership practices, both in local school district and statewide.

ü  collaborative work between home, school and community to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.

ü  leadership accomplishments in his/her local district and statewide.

ü  support of the Comprehensive Local Improvement Plan.

ü  support of the Georgia Parent Mentor Partnership.

ü  In brief, the Annual Phil Pickens Leadership Award Winners exhibits the leadership qualities that Mr. Pickens and other great visionaries exemplify!

Award Process and Dates to Remember

Monday, April 20th – Nomination period opens. Forms will be published on GaPMP website and listserv and emailed to region reps. Please complete and e-mail the Nomination Form to Cyndi White at .

Monday, May 4th – Deadline to submit nominations. Person making the nomination will receive a confirmation of receipt. No incomplete forms will be accepted, so please provide all requested information to enable us to contact nominees.

Tuesday, May 5th – Each nominee will receive an email congratulating them on their nomination. Nominee will either accept or decline nomination by responding to email.

Monday, May 11th – Deadline to accept or decline nomination.

Tuesday, May 12 th –Those accepting the nomination will be provided detailed guidelines and a request for supporting documentation.

Monday, June 1st – Deadline to submit supporting documentation.

August (Date TBA) - The Selection Committee (a five-member statewide panel of parent mentors and special education administrators) will review and rate each nomination using a rubric scale based on a five-point criteria.

September 22-23 - Awards will be presented during the GaPMP Annual Kick-Off Conference in Macon. Exact time of Awards Ceremony TBA.
