One of the most beautiful trails to walk in the country is the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail; this 61km trail extends from the village of Balla in central Mayo to the beautiful village of Murrisk which is nestled at the foot of Croagh Patrick. The trail which is an accredited National Way Marked Way passes through deciduous woodland and across rolling fields and raised bog. On the weekend of March 10th, 11th and 12th we at the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail are having our annual walking festival, this year we are in conjunction with Mayo Roscommon Hospice who will receive all proceeds, cost is €20 for 1 day & €50 for all 3.Walkers can register online www.croaghpatrickheritagetrail.com
Route & Distance: Friday10th March – Balla to Ballintubber (20 km). Registration 9.00am in Balla Community Centre. Saturday11th March - Ballintubber to Aughagower (21km). Registration 9.00am in Corley's Pub Ballintubber Meeting point is Aughagower Village at 8.30 am, parking at church. All funding raised is used in the Maintenance and day to day running of our Community Centre.
So I want to take this opportunity to thank all the teams involved that have helped in any way towards organising the various fundraising events, because it’s your time and commitment that has ensured that we continue to perform so well. Last but not least I want to thank you all for your generosity, sponsorship, and continued support. We in the Community Council remain committed to makingIslandeadya better place to live in and a Community that we are all proud of.

40thAnniversary:
We also reached a milestone in 2016 as we celebrated our 40thanniversary as a Community Council.
Since its foundation in 1976 I want to acknowledge the great work carried out by our Community on a voluntary basis. It’s the generosity of your time and commitment that has been at the very heart of the fantastic community spirit that exists inIslandeadytoday.
I congratulate James O’Malleyon being the longest serving member of our Community Council.Jameshas over34 years of continued service. Well done to James and to the many others that have served on the Community Council and given so generously of their time down through the years.
As we approach Christmas I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families at home and abroad a happy, peaceful and enjoyable Christmas.
