DOCTORAL DISSERTATION CO-TUTORSHIP CONVENTION TO BE CELEBRATED BETWEEN SÃO PAULO STATE UNIVERSITY (UNESP)

CNPJ/MF under no. 48,031,918/0001- 24, with the headquarters in São Paulo City, on Rua Quirino de Andrade, no. 215, hereinafter referred to as UNESP, represented, in this Act,by the President of the Central Graduate Chamber, Dr. ______, as delegation of the anticipated assignment provided in UNESP’s resolution #68, from 28/11/2008, and ______

______, hereby agree to put in place a doctoral co-tutorship program under the following terms and conditions:
CLAUSE ONE– THE OBJECT
This agreement sets out the framework for co-tutorship of the doctoral studies of ______, ID number ______,
enrolled in the Doctoral Program, offered by ______(Institute/College).
The title of the doctoral candidate’s dissertation, which shall be co-directed by the undersigned institutions, is ______.
CLAUSE TWO- SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES
TO BE DEVELOPED AND LOCATION
OF ACHIEVEMENT
(This clause should establish how long the doctoral candidate will stay in each
one of the described institutions, with a minimum time limit of 12 months in each institution.)
CLAUSE THREE- THE COORDINATION OF THE CONVENTION AND THE CANDIDATE’S ORIENTATION
3.1 The supervision and overview of the studies under this agreement will be coordinated by the advisors designated by the partner institutions.
3.2 At UNESP, the dissertation of the Doctoral candidate will be supervised by Dr. ______(name of advisor), whereas at ______(name of the partner institution), it will be directed by Dr. ______(name of advisor), who will both serve as the advisors for the candidate.
CLAUSE FOUR-THE CONDITIONS INHERENT TO THE CO-TUTORSHIP
4.1 The Ph.D.candidate shall be covered by adequate insurance in the country concerned his/her own expense (health insurance, transportation and accommodation) and must provide insurance certificates to the partner institutions.
At the time of submission of the proposal, the applicant should attach a declaration commitment according to the plan (Addendum I), with both the student's and the advisor’s signatures.
4.2. Both Universities undertake to award the degree of Doctor on a sole presentation of the dissertation at one of the universities involved, provided that the standards of the university where the dissertation defense takes place are met.
4.3. The dissertation should be written and defended in Portuguese/English or ______(language defined by the guidelines of the program’s institution), and in either case, the dissertation must be summarized in a detailed abstract in the language not included in the original text.
4.4. The Committee assessing the candidate’s dissertation will be designated by mutual agreement between the institutions and composed of members and alternates, following the General Rules of Graduate Studies of the institution where the dissertation will be defended.
4.5. Both parties recognize the validity of the co-tutorship procedure, as well as the validity of the doctoral dissertation, and commit themselves to deliver to the candidate the degree of Doctor.
4.6. Arrangements to safeguard any intellectual property generated as a result of this agreement must be determined by the two Doctoral Programs involved, in compliance with the specific procedures applicable in each country.
4.7. Enrollment fees, if any, will be paid to only one of the partner institutions.
CLAUSE FIVE-TERM
Considering that the preparation and defense of the dissertation is expected to take ______months, this agreement will operate for ______from the date of signing, and may be extended, subject to an amendment to this agreement, if necessary.
The period of stay for the candidate at the institution is ______months (period of time the student must stay in the other institution).
Upon agreeing with these terms, and aware of the contents and implications of all and each clause, both parties, both advisors and the doctoral candidate sign the present Agreement in 05 (five) identical copies, both in Portuguese and in English.
