Required school/cleaning supplies for McLane Hall
We will be conducting room checks on each of the rooms every other week for the entire semester. We have found that the following items are easy to use, effective & extremely helpful in maintaining a clean environment for your student. A complete calendar with room check dates will be posted in the hallway. In addition, students must leave rooms room check clean when they leave campus for Thanksgiving and Spring break. (Thanksgiving, the University closes on Tuesday afternoon and will reopen on Sunday. All residential halls are closed for that time frame – the only exception is for University sponsored events (football, basketball etc.) and those sponsors will contact housing to let them know students will need to stay. All other students must leave campus for the holiday and plan to return after the facility opens on Sunday afternoon.) (Spring break the residential halls close on Friday afternoon at 5pm and will reopen the following Sunday.) At the end of the fall semester, students will need to do a thorough cleaning of their room – pack and take home any items needed during the break, the rest of their personal possessions can be left in their designated housing for spring. If a student is switching from one room to another, they must pack all of their belongings and move them to the new location prior to leaving for the winter break.
Both students should bring –
1. Clorox wet wipes / or the equivalent – this basic cleaning tool can be used for the refrigerator, microwave, counter / desk tops & the outside of the toilet. Should also be used on commonly touched items like door knobs, light switches and faucet knobs after one of you have been sick.
2. Toilet bowl cleaner
3. Pledge all-purpose wipes / or glass cleaner and paper towels – use on the mirror in the bathroom (if all-purpose, they can be used on counter tops, desks & dressers as well)
4. Laundry hamper / basket- to collect clothes in your room.
5. Additional basket for taking items to the laundry room and bringing them back – clearly marked with students name
6. Laundry detergent
7. 4 Mr. Clean Magic erasers (total of 8 per room – one for each room check conducted through-out the semester)other products have been tried but this is the only effective tool found to work on the showers to maintain cleanliness.
Students should communicate with their roommate and decide who will bring each of the following items:
Trash can (& strongly recommended – trash bags) – Bathroom
Trash can (& strongly recommended – trash bags) – Bedroom
Toilet bowl brush
Broom & dustpan
Mop & cleaning fluid / Swiffer wet jet / or bucket and rag for cleaning floors every two weeks – The hall will not have a mop available, please plan accordingly.
McLane Hall does have several vacuums available for student use
Room fan – There are times when the building is transitioning from one season to the next and the rooms can get uncomfortable for a day or two.
