REGION 15 ESC SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH SERVICES

Region 15 ESC will assist your board in conducting a search for a new superintendent. The typical services provided are outlined below. The board may utilize the entire process, or select which areas it would like the ESC involved in.

·  Initial meeting with the board to outline procedures and determine what level of service the board desires.

·  Meeting with board and/or committee to develop a Candidate Profile to identify what specific qualities the board is seeking in a superintendent. Discuss internal candidates.

·  Advertise opening state wide. We will place ads that describe your desired candidate qualities, your district, and community in detail. The most common places for administrators who are looking for a superintendent position to search are the TASA website and Texasisd.com. You also have the option of having brochures printed and mailed to as many schools as you desire. We will do this option for you at cost--for whatever the printer charges, plus postage. We do not recommend this.

·  All applications will be sent to ESC Region 15, who will screen and organize them according to levels of certification and experience. All applications will be presented to the board.

·  Meet with the board to go over applications and allow the board to select all candidates they wish to interview.

·  Prior to the first round of interviews, Region 15 will conduct reference checks on candidates selected by the board to be interviewed. Information will be compiled for the board to review. An extensive set of interview questions will be provided for the board to choose from. We will help the board finalize the interview process they wish to use and will call and schedule interviews. (optional)

·  First Round Interviews: Depending on the number of candidates the board chooses to interview, this process may take multiple days. We can make follow up calls as needed should more extensive reference checks be desired or other information needs to be obtained.

·  Second Round Interviews: The board may choose to call back a limited number (typically 2-4) of candidates for a second interview. We will assist with organization of the process and provide second round interview questions. We will call and schedule interviews if desired. (Board may consider visiting the communities of the finalist prior to naming a Lone Finalist)

·  Selection of Lone Finalist: The board must select and declare a Lone Finalist as an action item at a regular or called board meeting. We will publicize your selection on TexasISD.com at this time, pull all other advertisements, and call each candidate not selected. In addition, we will send a letter to all original applicants, thanking them for their interest.

·  We will notify TexasISD.com after the 21 day period has passed, that your Lone Finalist is officially hired as superintendent of schools.

·  Points of Emphasis: We will do all calling, scheduling, profile development, reference checks, and everything else we can to make the board’s process as streamlined and professional as possible. The board will see EVERY application and will have total control regarding who is interviewed and selected. We are committed to helping the board obtain the maximum number of qualified applicants for their superintendent position. We are completely impartial and have no role or influence regarding whom the board selects.

Below is a sample minimum timeline for a typical superintendent search conducted in the Spring of the year. Basically, a search takes a minimum of 2 months from the application deadline to the actual hiring of the superintendent.

ESC Region 15 provides the Superintendent Search Services as a means to assist our regional school districts in their search efforts. We believe superintendent leadership is essential for district success. We offer this service for a flat rate of $2000, plus travel costs. Travel costs are calculated at $.50 per mile, plus meals.

*If ESC Region 15 is selected to assist in the superintendent search process, board training hours will be credited for all required meetings.
