CLASS TITLE:COMMISSION DEPUTY CLERK I

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is support work for the Clerk of the Commission and the Commission's legal staff performing a variety of functions such as typing, verifying legal opinions and case cites, issuing final orders, transcribing testimony and preparing docket files.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Enters records into computer system to create data base to produce printed originals of Commission notices, orders and other documents necessary for processing appeals.
  • Transcribes and prints briefs, motions, legal memoranda and other legal documents.
  • Distributes legal documents to courts, parties, attorneys and other interested parties.
  • Transcribes testimony taken at administrative hearings.
  • Certifies and distributes final orders of the Commission ensuring the accuracy of filing date and completeness.
  • Files final orders in the Commission's library by date and legal issue.
  • Enters necessary tracking date in the computer system.
  • Assembles case materials for review by the Commissioners.
  • Transmits materials to Commissioners timely to comply with all relevant statutes and rules.
  • Independently revises and updates reports for Commission.
  • Independently responds to written and verbal requests for inspection and copying of Commission records.
  • Operates a videotype computer and audio equipment.
  • Maintains production and quality control by reviewing finished product for written and grammatical errors.
  • Answers inquiries from staff and public.
  • Maintains working files of all documents pertaining to docketed matters.
  • Maintains electronic data base of confidential material filed with the Commission.
  • Prepares transcripts of records for decisions appealed to the Supreme Court and District Courts of Appeal.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Commission procedures.
  • Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation and grammar usage.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Skill in typing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to perform repetitive work for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality in handling matters before the Commission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years secretarial or clerical work experience, one year of which must have been as a legal secretary, a paralegal, work with administrative hearings or a judicial clerk.
  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for the nonlegal work experience.
  • An associate of arts/science degree from an accredited college or university with courses in the area of legal assistance or paralegal studies can substitute for the one year legal work related experience cited above.
